Robert Pattinson Runs Rings Around Savannah Guthrie On ‘Today’ Show: Method In The Funny

After Kristen Stewart faced offthat question on the Today show, Robert Pattinson’s next day appearance must have seemed like the ideal opportunity to the show’s co-anchor, Savannah Guthrie, to repeat the trick.

Except it didn’t quite turn out like that.

After a clip from The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 2 was shown, Pattinson bantered with Guthrie about everything from Edward’s “enormous eyebrows” and the “slow death” of getting older to staying in touch with cast mates and napping.

But it wasn’t long before Guthrie went for the money-shot.

“So, yesterday I asked Kristen Stewart if you two had gotten back together,” Guthrie began, before repeating Stewart’s ‘Keep ‘em guessing’ line back to Pattinson. “Alright, so I’m going to ask you.”

It was at this point that the Brit actor very calmly said:

“What I want to ask, because we get asked it all the time. It’s funny ‘cos everyone always asks for like four years. It’s like, ‘Who is actually asking?’ Is it in your contract?”

As a slightly befuddled Guthrie tried to recover with a joke about “fine print,” Pattinson’s quiet “yeah” said it all.

The Today host attempted to turn her earlier invasiveness into a comment on celebrity culture, asking her guest:

“Does it get annoying? Is it a high price to pay? You’ve gotten these films, it’s made you incredibly famous, there’s been so much good with it. But it is, you know, personal now.”

Then, Pattinson revealed the modus operandi he’s basically used in all his interviews since the scandal revelations in July.

“It doesn’t have to be,” the actor replied, laughing. “It only becomes personal if you answer it. I could just sit here and talk nonsense about paper rounds and stuff, and getting old, needing a nap.”

It’s not often that a guest on a high profile network television show gets to tell an anchor where sane, decent boundaries lie. But today Pattinson did.
