‘WWE Monday Night Raw’ Results: The Undertaker And Brock Lesnar Surprise Goldberg

With just six days until the “Road to WrestleMania” officially begins at WWE’s annual January PPV, the focus of this week’s Monday Night Raw was Sunday night’s Royal Rumble 2017, including an appearance from Goldberg, the man who practically squashed Brock Lesnar at Survivor Series in November. Over an hour before WWE Raw began, they announced via Twitter that The Big Show would be joining the Royal Rumble Match. What they didn’t announce was that Brock Lesnar and The Undertaker would be there to greet Goldberg before they all compete against each other in the 30-man battle royal.

NOTE: The WWE Monday Night Raw results were updated here in real-time as the show aired live, along with available video highlights and commentary. Any updates to the upcoming WWE Royal Rumble 2017 card were posted here as well.

WWE Monday Night Raw Results

The following includes the results of all the matches and segments from WWE Raw on January 23, which aired live from the Quicken Loans Arena in Cleveland, Ohio. In the final week of 2016, Raw lost the “ratings war” with the blue brand for the first time since the separate rosters were established. However, SmackDown LIVE hasn’t won again since the new year. Will the Royal Rumble 2017 go-home show and an appearance from WCW icon Goldberg be enough to get another win against SmackDown LIVE on Tuesday nights?

Roman Reigns was granted a U.S. Title Rematch

As Roman Reigns was cutting a promo in the ring to start this week’s WWE Raw, he was interrupted by Chris Jericho and Kevin Owens. After talking about his Universal Championship Match at Royal Rumble 2017, Reigns challenged Jericho to a rematch for the title he lost last week. Owens accepted the challenge on Jericho’s behalf.

Luke Gallows defeated Cesaro

It was announced that on the Royal Rumble Kickoff Show, Cesaro and Sheamus will defend the Raw Tag Team Championship against Karl Anderson and Luke Gallows in a match with two referees. They used this match to show why two referees were needed, as both Sheamus and Karl Anderson got involved behind the referee’s back before this one ended.

Corey Graves interviewed Bayley

In a pre-recorded interview, Bayley sat down with Corey Graves to talk about her Royal Rumble title match against Charlotte Flair. Bayley remained optimistic, saying that she views her own fandom as a positive, not a negative like Charlotte says.

Sami Zayn took Seth Rollins’ Royal Rumble Spot

In a match set up by Commissioner Stephanie McMahon, Sami Zayn faced Seth Rollins for a chance to earn a spot in the Royal Rumble Match on Sunday. The only catch was that the spot would be the one currently taken by Seth Rollins. After a competitive match, Triple H’s music hit, which distracted Rollins. This allowed Sami Zayn to get a roll-up pinfall victory, taking Seth’s place at Sunday’s PPV. The feud between Seth Rollins and Triple H continues to build.

TJ Perkins, Jack Gallagher and Mustafa Ali defeated Drew Gulak, Tony Nese and Ariya Daivari

Promoting the Cruiserweight Division and 205 Live in a Six-Man Tag Team Match, Mustafa Ali was the central focus, as they teamed him up with two of the most popular Cruiserweights and gave him the pinfall after a slick top-rope finisher.

Titus O’Neil interrupted The New Day… again

As The New Day came to the ring to talk about Royal Rumble 2017, they were interrupted by Enzo and Big Cass, who came out to announce that Colin Cassady would be entering the Royal Rumble Match. They were quickly interrupted by Rusev, Lana and Jinder Mahal, who wanted to announced that the Bulgarian Brute would also take part in the 30-man battle royal. Finally, Titus O’Neil came out to announce that all of them were involved in an Eight-Man Tag Team Match, featuring Braun Strowman.

The Big Show confronted Braun Strowman

The heels got the victory in the Eight-Man Tag Team Match, punctuated by Braun Strowman’s brutal offense. Post-match, The Big Show — who had officially entered the Royal Rumble Match earlier in the day — came out to prevent Strowman from doing further damage after the tag match.

Roman Reigns defeated Chris Jericho by disqualification

WWE Universal Champion Kevin Owens would eventually join the announce team as the other half of Jeri-KO defended the United States Championship against Roman Reigns. When it looked like Reigns might win back the belt, Owens left his spot at the commentary table to attack Reigns, causing a disqualification and leaving the title around the waist of Chris Jericho.

As KO and Y2J tried to lock Roman in the shark cage after the match, Reigns was able to put Owens inside the cage, have it lifted off of the ground, and then hit a dangling Jericho with a Superman Punch.

Corey Graves interviewed Charlotte Flair

In a follow-up to the pre-recorded Bayley interview, Corey Graves also sat down with Raw Women’s Champion Charlotte Flair. She was as confident as ever, looking to improve her title-defense PPV-winning-streak to 16 on Sunday night.

Nia Jax defeated Ray Lyn

Nia Jax squashed local talent Ray Lyn before Sasha Banks came to the ring on crutches to confront her. After their brawl, it was announced that Sasha Banks vs. Nia Jax had been added to the Royal Rumble 2017 Kickoff on Sunday night.

Rich Swann defeated Noam Dar

The WWE Cruiserweight Champion got a non-title victory over Noam Dar, who was accompanied to the ring by Alicia Fox. After the match, Swann called out Neville, and the two came face-to-face just six days before their title match at Royal Rumble 2017.

After a commercial break, Cedric Alexander was interviewed backstage about his match on 205 Live against Neville on Tuesday night. He was interrupted by Noam Dar and Alicia Fox, as their love-triangle drama continues to unfold.

The Undertaker and Brock Lesnar interrupted Goldberg’s return

As Goldberg was in the ring cutting a promo about the 30-man battle royal — apparently just moments after cutting his head while shaving — he was interrupted by Paul Heyman. The Advocate announced that his client Brock Lesnar was in the building, and The Beast Incarnate came to the ring to get in Goldberg’s face. The lights went out, however, and The Undertaker appeared in the ring with both of them.

Despite the three of them all being in the ring together, things didn’t get more physical than a stare-down as Monday Night Raw went off the air.

The above WWE Raw results have been corroborated by WWE’s official Monday Night Raw page.
