Michelle Obama Election Dress Worn Twice Before By First Lady

Michelle Obama’s dress at Wednesday’s election night party has earned a fair few column inches of its own over the past 24 hours. Yet it’s not a new look for the first lady. E! Online reports that Obama has sported the Michal Kors frock, a magenta silk pin-tucked number, on two previous occasions.

Michelle Obama’s dress made its first appearance in 2009 at a White House holiday party where it was combined with a stylish updo. And the dress was reached for again on November 16, 2010, the day her husband presented Army Staff Sergeant Salvatore Giunta with the Medal of Honor. Perhaps wary of the more formal nature of the occasion, the ever-chic first lady added a black cardigan and Alexis Bittar brooch.

And sure enough, in the early hours of Wednesday, it was there again as Michelle Obama joined her daughters and re-elected husband on stage. As in 2010, a black cardigan was added to the versatile dress, along with a a vintage pink brooch from House of Lavande.

It wasn’t only Michelle Obama’s recycled dress that had fashionistas impressed (again); the first daughters looked the part as well, with Malia sporting an electric blue skirt with pink studded belt and Sasha choosing an abstract-print green skirt and borrowing her mom’s cardigan look.

Michael Kors, the man behind the Michelle Obama dress, modestly told the Associated Press:

“Mrs. Obama looked chic and elegant as always on Election Night. My dress, with its strong color, clean lines and feminine silhouette, has all the elements that have become a part of the trademark style of our first lady.”

Were you as wowed by Michelle Obama’s dress as, er, its creator?
