2009-10 NBA preview: Phoenix Suns

As this off season began it seemed that the Phoenix Suns were amidst a major roster overhaul. They traded away Shaquille O’Neil for a couple of players that never seemed, destine to wear the purple and the orange. There were rumors Steve Nash was unhappy, and that Amar’e Stoudemire was going to be traded to Golden State for a bunch of young prospects. Then something very curios happened, nothing. Suddenly The Suns front office were in the midst of renegotiating contract with Nash and with Stoudemire. This team also resigned veteran guard Grant Hill for two more seasons.

What all this seems to prove is that the Sky is falling attitude of this front office was just talk, or maybe just panic. What this team is now is a team with two big eyes focused solely on their books. With the economic slowdown, and their NHL city mates fighting off bankruptcy, the Suns are looking to save money and avoid any hint of the NBA luxury tax.

With the salary gone away from the luxury tax threshold, Suns fans are curios to see what kind of team they are going to be. Since Shaq is now gone, and interim Coach Alvin Gentry has resigned it seems the run and gun Suns are back. The key to their success will be timely contributions from their youngsters and the hope that their aging stars don’t show their age.
