Banished Cubs Outfielder Bradley Apologizes; No Grievance From MLBPA For Suspension

Milwaukee, WI (AHN) – Embattled Chicago Cubs outfielder Milton Bradley, suspended for the final two weeks of the season, apologized Wednesday for his comments and behavior that led to his banishment by the team.

Cubs general manager Jim Hendry suspended Bradley for the final 15 games of the season Sunday.

Notice of suspension was made to Major League Baseball. Also notified was the Major League Baseball Players Association, who was considering filing grievance to challenge the disciplinary sanction.

Bradley, in the first of a three-year, $30 million deal with the Cubs, was expected to be paid while serving his suspension, making the filing of grievance moot.

From the developments, it is widely believed that the Cubs have worked out an informal resolution of the case with Bradley through his agents.

Hendry, for his part, has not made indications on the future of the 31-year-old journeyman with the Cubs, his seventh team.

Reportedly pleased by the Bradley’s apology was Cubs manager Lou Piniella, who earlier defended Hendry’s decision to discipline the outspoken player.

Bradley failed to follow up his stellar campaign with Texas in 2008, batting .321. He struggled this season and batted .257 overall, with 12 homers and 40 RBI.
