New Jersey Gas Station Accidentally Pumps Out Gas Mixed With Diesel

North Brunswick, New Jersey — Gas has been a prized commodity on the East Coast since Sandy blew through. Many customers are required to wait for hours to fill their tanks. Survivors are not only relying on the gas to fill their cars, but to run generators while power outages keep parts of the coast in darkness.

According to The Consumerist, “One New Jersey gas station was happy to serve fuel-hungry customers, but made the unfortunate mistake of serving up gasoline mixed with diesel fuel.”

Over two dozen drivers who waited in line at the New Brunswick gas station were given diesel-tainted fuel, reports The New Jersey Star-Ledger. The Hess station new Finnegans Lace shut down after receiving complaint calls from several disgruntled customers, said company spokesperson Lorrie Hecker. Hecker stated that the station has receieved fuel from a third-party company early in the morning. The company, not owned by Hess, delivered the gasoline in a tank truck that still had some diesel fuel on board.

“Apparently there was a little bit of diesel in with a lot of gasoline,” Hecker said. “We stand behind our product and will put things right for our customers,” The spokesperson added.

The tainted gasoline was delivered to the Hess station at about 4:30 am. By 11:30am, people who had received the gasoline began calling with complaints. The pumps were immediately shut down.

Hecker notes that the mixed fuel was pumped out and the tanks cleaned. The stationed reopened later in the day.

“We sincerely regret any inconvenience this has caused our customers,” Hecker added.
