‘WWE SmackDown LIVE’ And ‘205 Live’ Results: Mickie James Is La Luchadora — Cruiserweight Veteran Injured

With Royal Rumble 2017 less than two weeks away, SmackDown LIVE had a stacked show scheduled for this week’s episode, including an historic Steel Cage Match for the Women’s Championship, the return of Jerry Lawler on The King’s Court, a “huge announcement” from Commissioner Shane McMahon about Elimination Chamber and the return of Mickie James to WWE when it was revealed that she was La Luchadora. Three more spots were claimed for the Royal Rumble Match and the tension within The Wyatt Family continues to build as they prepare for WWE’s annual January PPV.

NOTE: The WWE SmackDown LIVE, 205 Live and Talking Smack results were updated here in real-time as the shows aired live, along with available video highlights and commentary. Any updates to the upcoming WWE Royal Rumble 2017 card have been posted here as well.

WWE SmackDown LIVE Results

The following includes the results of all the matches and segments from SmackDown LIVE, 205 Live, and Talking Smack on January 17. SmackDown LIVE finally defeated Monday Night Raw in the ratings during the last week of 2016, but hasn’t done so again in 2017. Will an historic Steel Cage Match, a big announcement from the Commissioner and the return of Jerry Lawler on King’s Court be enough for Shane McMahon and Daniel Bryan’s show to defeat WWE Raw in the ratings once again?

Shane McMahon made Elimination Chamber Match official

In the opening segment of this week’s SmackDown LIVE, Commissioner Shane McMahon announced that the winner of AJ Styles vs. John Cena at Royal Rumble 2017 would defend the title in an Elimination Chamber Match at the February PPV. This brought AJ Styles to the ring, followed by John Cena, The Miz and Maryse. After some instigation from John Cena, a match between Ambrose and Styles was set up as the first match of the night.

John Cena interfered in AJ Styles vs. The Miz

John Cena provided guest commentary for AJ Styles vs. The Miz, and would eventually get involved physically. After Styles tossed The Miz into Cena at ringside, Cena threw The Miz into the barricade. Then, the WWE Champion jumped the leader of the Cenation, leading to a chase that ended with both Styles and The Miz taking an Attitude Adjustment. The match was ruled a No Contest.

Natalya trashed Nikki Bella’s merch

As Nikki Bella tried to call Natalya out to the ring to finish the fight they started last week, Natalya told Nikki that she had something else in mind. As Natalya was throwing some of Nikki Bella’s merchandise in the garbage, Nikki attacked her, and a backstage brawl ensued.

Dasha Fuentes interviewed Alexa Bliss

When Dasha Fuentes interviewed the SmackDown Women’s Champion backstage, Alexa Bliss appeared as confident as ever about her big match with Becky Lynch inside the Steel Cage.

Dean Ambrose defeated Randy Orton

Earlier in the show, WWE Intercontinental Champion Dean Ambrose asked Commissioner Shane McMahon if he could have a match with Randy Orton “just for fun.” The non-title match was granted, giving The Lunatic Fringe a chance to get payback for a beat-down The Wyatt Family gave him several weeks ago.

In the match, Luke Harper clearly got involved when he shouldn’t have, killing all of Randy Orton’s momentum and allowing Dean Ambrose to get the win. Later in the show, as leader and speaker of The Wyatt Family, Bray made a typically-creepy announcement that all three members of his stable would be entering the Royal Rumble Match. Additionally, Randy Orton would face Luke Harper in a singles match on SmackDown LIVE next week.

Dasha Fuentes interviewed Becky Lynch

When Dasha Fuentes interviewed the challenger for the Steel Cage Match main event, Becky Lynch showed just as much confidence as her opponent, Alexa Bliss.

Dolph Ziggler superkicked Jerry Lawler

After receiving a rather warm reception from his home crowd in Memphis, Jerry “The King” Lawler brought out Dolph Ziggler, who recently turned heel. After refusing to answer most of Lawler’s questions, Ziggler aired a video of the night he repeatedly elbowed Lawler in the chest just moments before The King had a real-life heart-attack on live television. As he turned to leave, Ziggler surprised Lawler with a superkick to the chest, and refused to return to the ring when Lawler finally got up and started yelling.

Alexa Bliss defeated Becky Lynch

The historic main event was a Steel Cage Match for the SmackDown Women’s Championship. In the end, when it looked like Becky Lynch would become a two-time champion, La Luchadora showed up and blocked the cage door. She then got involved in the match inside the ring, assisting Alexa Bliss and securing her win.

After the match, Becky Lynch fought both Bliss and La Luchadora. She eventually ripped off La Luchadora’s mask, revealing Mickie James underneath.

Talking Smack on the WWE Network

General Manager Daniel Bryan was absent from this week’s SmackDown LIVE taping in Memphis, so Commissioner Shane McMahon joined Renee Young for the second week in a row as the co-host of Talking Smack. Their first guest was Jerry Lawler, who talked as much about Royal Rumble 2017 as he did the attack he suffered at the hands of Dolph Ziggler. The King will not only join Renee on the Royal Rumble Kick-Off Show panel but will also provide commentary for the Royal Rumble Match alongside Michael Cole and Corey Graves.

Baron Corbin was their second guest, who essentially brushed off the fact that he lost to John Cena last week. He said his plans haven’t changed: he’s going to win the Royal Rumble Match and win the title in the main event of WrestleMania 33. The final guest was Bray Wyatt, who said that the match between Randy Orton and Luke Harper on SmackDown LIVE next week would prepare The Wyatt Family to win the Royal Rumble Match.

WWE 205 Live Results

The following includes the results of all the matches and segments from WWE 205 Live on January 10. Although it’s unclear whether any of the 205 Live competitors will be entering the Royal Rumble Match, there is certainly plenty of drama going on in the Cruiserweight Division, most of which was addressed on 205 Live.

Drew Gulak defeated Cedric Alexander

Alicia Fox inserted herself (and her drama) into this match, which drew Noam Dar to ringside, convincing her to leave Cedric Alexander and Drew Gulak alone. In the end, Gulak would get the win. Backstage, Alicia Fox slapped Noam Dar.

Tony Nese defeated Mustafa Ali

Quickly establishing himself as one of the dominant talents on 205 Live, Tony Nese got a clean victory over Mustafa Ali in singles competition.

Injury Update: Tajiri

Without going into a great deal of detail, the announce team informed viewers that Tajiri — who just recently made his official in-ring debut on 205 Live — would be out for a considerable amount of time with an injury.

Ariya Daivari forfeited to Jack Gallagher

In the first official “I Forfeit” Match, Jack Gallagher locked in a finisher with an umbrella to finally make Ariya Daivari give up on both the match and, presumably, the feud.

Although their feud was mentioned, both Neville and Rich Swann were left off of this week’s 205 Live. So far, no one from the Cruiserweight Division has joined the Royal Rumble Match.

The above 205 Live results have been corroborated by WWE’s official 205 Live page.
