Woman Must Wear ‘Idiot’ Sign For Using Sidewalk To Pass School Bus

Idiot Sign

Cleveland, OH – A woman has been ordered by a judge to wear an “idiot” sign for passing a school bus while it was loading and unloading children, ABC 15 is reporting.

Shena Hardin was caught on camera using a sidewalk to pass a school bus. In addition to wearing the aforementioned sign, the 32-year-old had her license suspended for 30 days. Hardin will also have to cough up $250 in fines.

Unfortunately for the traffic offender, she will be forced to stand at an intersection while wearing a sign which reads “Only an idiot drives on the sidewalk to avoid a school bus.” Hardin will be made to stand with her shame on Tuesday and Wednesday (November 6 and November 7) from 7:45 am to 8:45 am.

The Cleveland Metropolitan School District bus driver Hardin passed on the sidewalk caught the whole thing on camera. According to WQAD-8, Hardin passes school buses on a fairly regular basis. Now the thoughtless driver will have to pay the price for her carelessness.

“We had a very conscientious driver for 30 years. He really cares about his children and he took the extra step that this doesn’t happen again,” explained CMSD bus manager Eric Taylor.

This isn’t the first time a reckless driver has been forced to wear a sign for their crimes. According to The Huffington Post, 39-year-old Michael Giacona was ordered to wear a sign after serving time for killing a young man during a drunk driving accident.

The judge ordered Giacona to wear a sign made by the victim’s mother which read “I killed Aaron Coy Pennywell while driving drunk” for no less than four consecutive Saturdays. The sign must be worn whenever he ventures out into public.

“You make me nervous, and the reason you make me nervous is I believe what the witnesses said about your behavior that evening: That you were, even after killing someone, still looking to get more alcohol. This is not your first DWI,” Harris County Court-at-Law Judge Michael R. Fields said.

Do you think the woman should have to wear an “idiot” sign for passing a school bus on the sidewalk?

I think the judge should stick to the law as written and stop turning our courts in a punishment session from the dark ages. the law says, fine and or imprison and suspend license. not wear humiliating sign. this is moronic. if I were her id sue.

my roomate's sister-in-law makes $86/hr on the laptop. She has been fired from work for seven months but last month her paycheck was $21530 just working on the laptop for a few hours. Read more on this site """"""""""".

You would Wolff. Is that America now USA you Sue anyone. This stupid lady passes a SCHOOL bus and you think she should Sue???? Wtf, and its up to whatever the judge says. I think she should wear the sign for longer and pay more fines!

While the woman deserves to be punished, this ruling violates her rights under the 8th amendment:" Excessive bail shall not be required, nor excessive fines imposed, nor cruel and unusual punishments inflicted." This is supposed to protect against both torture and public humiliation. Judge Carr should be disbarred for violating his oath of office.

Although a ridiculous thing to do,,, this is America and that is not a punishment that should be sentenced. If we allow something like this to happen,,,,, then what is next? maybe we should sentence somebody that runs a red light to wear christmas lights and a jester costume for a period of no less than 30 days… c'mon folks… even though the offender did something really unsafe and really wrong,,, that is not a valid thing to do from the judge…

How can you compare driving on a SIDEWALK to pass a SCHOOL BUSS FULL OF CHILDREN, to running a light. I think you'd all be singing a different tune if it was your child on that bus!! I can't believe you all think this women should just get a slap on the wrist!? If you read the article this is not the first time this has happened!

@Brent – Just another racist comment. What the hell does Obama have to do with an idiot driving on a sidewalk? Do you say she's an Obama voter because she's black? Because she's from Ohio? How do you know if she's a voter at all?

  8. Victoria Ward-Greco

@Brent – Just another racist comment. What does Obama have to do with an idiot driving over the sidewalk? Are you calling her an Obama voter because she's black? Or is it because she's from Ohio? How do you know if this woman is a voter at all?

Of course SUE!!! What else does an american do today!!!! That's ridulous. She should have been put in jail with no bail. This is not her first time and I think wearing a sign won't mean a thing to her. Apparently, she is a who does what she wants. Pass a school bus on the sidewalk – that ranks up there with running a red light. Sorry Wolff – it's people like you that have made america a law suit country.

@Bartholio – Just another racist comment. What does Obama have to do with this idiot driving on the sidewalk? Are you calling her an Obama voter because she's black? Is it because she's from Ohio? How do you know this woman even votes at all? What she did was reckless and stupid, across the board. You could have kept your comment about whom she may have voted for to yourself!

I think this bitch needs to lose her license to drive for years, not for just 30 days. Oh boo hoo, more little girl has to wear an embarrassing sign for a couple of hours……cruel and unusual punishment! What a crock! If by 32 years old this imbecile hasn't learned that there is a reason you don't pass a school bus……..she needs to ride the bus herself. See how she likes being at the mercy of a selfish stupid driver who's only thought is getting there no matter what the cost.

  12. Brian Connelly

Wow, I'd rather be associated with that awful driver than the GOP if they're all like you. Actually, let me take a page out of your book and just group you all together saying that you're obviously a Romney supporter due to the fact that you all think that way… The guy lost in a state where he was governer, THAT ought to tell you something.

  13. Brian Connelly

The law may state a "Mandatory Minimum Sentence" but final sentencing is up to the judge

  14. Gail Mohning Ancelin

She probably was using her "Cleveland's Free Phone" and didn't realize what she was doing.

  15. Dan Morgan

Brian Connelly , Are you freaking kidding me? He was elected because he was a millimeter right of hard leftist and had the skills to manage the finances in a 85% democratic state!! That it stayed that way shows just how conservative and right wing HE WASN'T !! Learn your history before mouthing off!

  16. Sheila Gowan-Werland

I do believe we need a department of common sense, although I find the wearing of the sign reminiscent of the Scarlet Letter…jail, fine, loss of license, and picture in paper should be enough. How do we teach our children not to name call when we let our judicial system flaunt the behavior. Yes, her actions were reckless and idiotic but really what comes next…public stoning?

  17. Deborah Hoff

While I agree that it is a good idea to shame the idiots, I did'nt write the Constitution, in which this punishment is not so much cruel, but unusual and therefore unconstitutional.

  18. Alicia Pope Smock

You are correct…its a stupid punishment and wont help anyway. The judge is acting as immature as she did!!!!!

  19. Madeleine Lindy Dawes

I don't really think that wearing a sign will change her attitude, but I also don't think that the usual "fine and or imprison and suspend license" is getting through to her either. I don't know what would get through to people like this. I have no clue where she got the idea that driving on a sidewalk was even remotely close to an ok thing to do.

  20. Kristen Pietrzak

Yes yes public stoning will come after wearing a sign. I'm sure wearing the sign does not change her idotic views of public safety, but I bet she will never do it again!

  21. George Glatz

No, Greg. It does not violate her rights under the 8th amendment. Less so because of the evolving standards of the law and judicial system. You two are fucking morons.
