New Nintendo console by 2011, predicts Square Enix boss

Nintendo will bring out another console after the Wii. Of that we can be sure, because we also know that Nintendo likes money. But with the Wii still selling like the hottest of hotcakes, that won’t be any time soon, right? Wrong! Well, Square Enix president Yoichi Wada thinks so, anyway. From the Financial Times:

“Mr Wada expected Nintendo to release a new Wii by 2011, with functionality more like that of Microsoft’s Xbox 360 or Sony’s PlayStation 3, and possibly a different controller.”

As head of the company behind Final Fantasy, Kingdom Hearts, and Dragon Quest, I’m pretty sure Wada knows this industry better than a nobody blogger like me, but 2011 seems to be stretching it, no?

Also, a Ninty console that is more like the 360 and PS3? I don’t know: Nintendo seems happy to go its own way, as evidenced by both the Wii and DS.
