Seagate Outs Barracuda XT. First 6Gbps 2TB Drive

Seagate hard drives continue to impress, especially today after the company announced their 2TB Barracuda XT drive with a 6Gbps SATA interface. With those specs the drive will offer double the bandwidth of current SATA II drives.

Unfortunately those double bandwidth rates are only theoretical at this time, although users can expect speeds up to 600MBps via burst transfers. While sustained transfer speeds can also be achieved up to 140MBps and the drives also feature 64MB of onboard cache.

The XT is also built to support current SATA II systems and 1.5Gbps SATA drives and their maximum speeds.

The Seagate Barracuda XT drives are expected to start shipping later this week for a relatively cheap $299. [via Electronista]
