Jamie Foxx In Talks To Play ‘Amazing Spider-Man 2’ Villain

Jamie Foxx is in early talks to play a villain in The Amazing Spider-Man 2, Variety reports.

Sources have reported that Foxx would play Electro, news that the actor seemingly confirmed on Twitter when he wrote, “Dressed up as Electro for Halloween last night. Costume fits well.”

Electro is the alter ego of Max Dillon, a man who is stuck by lightning and gains the ability to control electricity. Electro was created by Stan Lee and Steve Ditko and made his first appearance in The Amazing Spider-Man #9 in February 1964.

There was speculation that Electro would be a villain in the sequel because of a scene in the first film. In the post-credit sequence, Dr. Curt Connors is sitting in his asylum cell when a shadowy stranger appears during an electrical storm and asks if Peter Parker knows the truth about his father.

Andrew Garfield will be reprising his role as Peter Parker/Spider-Man, and Emma Stone will be returning as Gwen Stacy. Sony has reportedly negotiated with The Secret Life of the American Teenager‘s Shailene Woodley for a small but important role as Mary Jane Watson. The role was played by Kirsten Dunst in Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man trilogy.

Producers are reportedly looking for an actor to play Harry Osborne, who was played by James Franco in Raimi’s franchise.

Marc Webb will be returning to direct the sequel, and Avi Arad and Matt Tolmach will produce.

The Amazing Spider-Man 2 is set to be released May 2, 2014.
