Head Of Haitian Boys School Indicted On Abuse Charges

Washington, DC (AHN) – Prosecutors have indicted the founder and director of an all-boys school in Haiti on federal charges and accused him of sexually abusing some of his students.
Douglas Perilitz, 39, of Eagle, Co. is facing 10 counts of sexual abuse charges on children under the age of 18, the Justice Department announced last week.
Perlitz ran the Project Pierre Toussaint in Capt-Haitien, Haiti. The school was noted for helping poor boys in the country.
But acting U.S. Attorney Nora R. Dannehy and John T. Morton, assistant secretary of the Department of Homeland Security, told the Hartford Courant that he used his position of authority “to manipulate and sexually abuse vulnerable boys for nearly a decade.”
Perlitz is accused of persuading nine boys to engage in sex acts with him in exchange for food, shelter, cell phones, clothes and other items.
If convicted, he faces 30 years in federal prison and a $2.5 million fine.
