A Beaming Kristen Stewart Co-Announces Jodie Foster As Cecil B. DeMille Award Winner

Actress, director, and producer Jodie Foster will be the next recipient of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association’s Cecil B. DeMille Award for lifetime achievement.

Kristen Stewart (The Twilight Saga, On The Road, Welcome to the Rileys) and Simon Baker (The Devil Wears Prada, The Mentalist) were on hand to present at the morning announcement held at the Beverly Hills hotel in Beverly Hills, California.

Introducing the event, H.F.P.A president Dr. Aida Takla O’Reilly said:

“Jodie is a multifaceted woman that has achieved immeasurable amounts of success and will continue to do so in her career. Her ambition, exuberance and grace have helped pave the way for budding artists in this business. She’s truly one of a kind.”

Wearing a short Bec and Bridge blue dress with black heels, Stewart and Baker then told the assembled press that Foster would be given her award at the 70th Annual Golden Globe Awards on Sunday, January 13, 2013.

A signature event for the H.F.P.A, the 2013 Golden Globes will be hosted by comedians-writers-producers Tina Fey and Amy Poehler.

Previous Cecil B. DeMille award winners include Morgan Freeman, Barbara Streisand, Walt Disney, Harrison Ford, Judy Garland, Audrey Hepburn, Bette Davis, Martin Scorsese, Frank Sinatra, Steven Spielberg, and Alfred Hitchcock to name just a few.

As a two-time Golden Globe winner — first in 1989 for The Accused and then 1992 for The Silence of the Lambs — Foster is a popular choice for the award.

After debuting on the Hollywood scene when she was eight years old, breakthrough roles in Alice Doesn’t Live Here Anymore (1975) and Taxi Driver (1976) — a role she received her first Oscar nomination for — put Hollywood on notice that a precocious talent had arrived.

Foster’s 1991 directorial debut, Little Man Tate, followed years of standout roles as an actress and began her second wind as a producer-director through her company Egg Pictures.

Notably, Foster, 49, is also the youngest actor to win the award since Charlton Heston back in 1967.

For Stewart, the opportunity to honor Foster is also a chance to return a kindness. At the height of the vitriolic reaction to Stewart’s infidelity with Snow White and The Huntsman director Rupert Sanders, Foster wrote a powerful open letter in The Daily Beast urging the 22-year-old not to:

“lose your ability to throw your arms in the air again and spin in wild abandon. That is the ultimate F.U. and—finally—the most beautiful survival tool of all. Don’t let them take that away from you.”

This is a busy time for both actresses. Foster has just completed filming Elysium opposite Matt Damon and Stewart is in the middle of a full on promotion tour for The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 2.
