Four backups who might get a shot soon

While the Carolina Panthers recently signed back up QB AJ Feeley, he will need time to learn the Panther offense otherwise this list would be five deep. Jake Delhomme hasn’t recovered from his embarrassing performance in last year’s playoffs, and it soon may necessitate a change for the Carolina team. In fact there is at least four other NFL teams that soon may be forced to go to their backup QB’s as their starters have so far been ineffective.

First we have the St. Louis Rams, who were shut out in week one by Seattle. Starting QB Marc Bulger doesn’t seem to have shaken off the effects of a broken pinkie, and is coming off two bad seasons in a row. In all truthfulness The Rams are in need of a major roster shake up. The need a new team identity and direction, and starting back up QB Kyle Boller is a step in that direction, but probably not enough.

Jason Campbell, starting QB for the Washington Redskins, continues to make critical mistakes. If he cannot rectify them, then Washington will be forced to go with 37 year old back up QB Todd Collins. The Last time Collins was the started in Washington he sparked them with a late December rally that got this team into the playoffs.

In Miami Chad Pennington has been struggling and the tem may be forced to take an earlier than expected look at QB of the future Chad Henne. Florida’s other team the Jacksonville Jaguars are also looking at Luke McCown to replace starter David Garrard. Garrard is struggling, but the just acquired McCown will need sometime to learn their offense.
