Kelsea Ballerini Engaged To Morgan Evans After Romantic Christmas Morning Proposal

Country pop star Kelsea Ballerini is now engaged to Australian country singer Morgan Evans, whom she had been dating for the past several months.

Evans proposed to Ballerini on Christmas morning while she was attempting to cook them some breakfast.

“This morning, 9 months and 13 days later, he got down on one knee in the kitchen while I was burning pancackes [sic] and asked me to marry him,” Ballerini wrote in an Instagram post with a picture of her and Evans hugging.

“Loving him has been the greatest gift of my life. And now I get to do it for life. #HECALLEDDIBS.”

Evans shared the same photo to his Instagram account after the two became engaged. He played off of Ballerini’s #HECALLEDDIBS hashtag, which in itself is a play of Ballerini’s hit song “Dibs.”

“When you know, you know… she’s perfect. #ultimatedibs,” Evans wrote.

Ballerini and Evans met when the two hosted Australia’s Country Music Channel Awards together in March, according to Page Six. The two have been dating every since. (The date of the CMC Awards does happen to correspond pretty closely to the “9 months and 13 days later” Bellini mentions in her Instagram post about getting engaged.)

In early December, Ballerini told Page Six she would be heading to Australia with Evans for two weeks after the holidays, but there was no talk of marriage or any mention of the two possibly getting engaged. Then again, the best proposals do tend to have at least a hint of surprise to them.

Ballerini, 23, signed her first record deal with Black River Publishing in 2013, when she was only 19-years-old, according to her All Music biography. The label released her first single,”Love Me Like You Mean It,” the following year. After a self-titled EP was released later that year, Ballerini was named one of 2014’s Next Women of Country by Country Music Television. She performed at the Grand Ol’ Opry for the first time the following February.

Ballerini’s first full-length studio album, aptly titled The First Time, was released in May of 2015. The album has sold nearly a quarter of a million copies, according to country music website RoughStock.

Ballerini has also received Billboard‘s Women in Music Rising Star award for 2015 and the Academy of Country Music’s New Female Vocalist of the Year award for 2016.

Kelsea Ballerini is close friends with Taylor Swift, and the musical stylings and career trajectories of the two have been compared.

“Kelsea Ballerini is following in Taylor Swift’s footsteps with a brand of country that cradles a hint of pop, and while she’s breaking chart records and taking America by storm on tour, it’s about time the mainstream turns toward her,” Emilee Lindner wrote in a September article for Fuse. “That is, of course, if it hasn’t already,” she added.

If the comparison seems a bit much to those who are unfamiliar with Ballerini, keep in mind that around the same time as Lindner was writing that article there was widespread speculation that Taylor Swift had collaborated with a new single Ballerini shared a clip of via Snapchat.

Fans even believed that Swift sang on the track with her at the time. Ballerini had to publicly clarify that that was not the case.
