It seems that today, an "awards" show has become a popularity contest rather than an acknowledgement of their accomplishments. CMA awards, as many are, is nothing but a showcase for singers, etc someone wants to make a star. It is like a teenage show and they keep trying to shove some of these people down our throats, over and over and over. If some of these singers are true stars they don't have to be on every single show. I don't even recognize most of the songs as Country anymore. I guess I am a Classic Country kind of girl. Give me some Tammy, Ray Price, Patsy kind of performers. I want to recognize the tunes that you can two step to, walze to, etc. This stuff the call country today is just way off the mark. The CMAs as well as any other awards show is useless and just a popularity contest. These awards are a joke and always will be a joke as long as they are controlled by only the big record labels. All artists are not even considered, only those on the big labels. That being said, I am not a fan of Toby or any country/mainstream artists for the same reasons. These people are marketed and given airplay for very bland and uncreative music. The entire commercial music industry is currently flooded with "artists" with very limited musical talent. Anyone with basic music knowledge can write a country song. The music is extremely simple and the lyrics, equally as simple. None of these mainstream artists do anything technical or creative, it is all based on whatever is popular and sells the most. Then copy that sound and reap the profits while they can.

Lets see some real artists get some attention. You know those that focus on their art, live, breathe, eat, drink music, 24/7. Artists that create entire albums, not just a "hit single".

What a load of crap! The Dixie Chicks ruined their OWN careers by 1) Publicly blasting the president of the US on stage (GWB at the time).
