A wild boar attacked and injured four people in a Berlin neighborhood earlier today.

According to the Denver Post, the 265-pound wild boar attacked a man and woman in their 70s, a 24-year-old woman, and a police officer.

The attack occurred in the Charlottenburg, a residential area on the outside of the capital. The 74-year-old man was bitten in the leg and the 74-year-old woman was knocked to the ground by the wild boar. A 24-year-old woman was also attacked by the boar but was able to escape further injury by climbing on top of a parked car.

A police officer arrived on the scene with the hopes of detaining the animal. The officer was also attacked, however, and was forced to kill the animal with multiple gunshots.

According to ABC, wild boars are common in Berlin but they are rarely aggressive. They will occasionally tear up a garden but rarely attack people.

Marc Franusch, a spokesman for the Berlin forestry service told UPI that it appeared that the boar had fractured its leg during the attack. Franusch speculated that the boar was hit by a car previous to the attack and noted that injured animals can get aggressive as a defense mechanism.

All three people injured in the wild boar attack were taken to the hospital.
