WWE News: Jim Ross Believes John Cena Should Turn Heel Against Undertaker

The biggest WWE rumor for WrestleMania in 2017 is a huge John Cena vs. Undertaker match. The ideas floated around is that Undertaker will have one last run on TV leading into WrestleMania and then face John Cena in a retirement match, similar to what Undertaker and Shawn Michaels fought in a few years back.

In a recent episode of The Ross Report, Ringside News reported that Jim Ross was talking about the idea of the Undertaker match at WrestleMania next year with Lance Storm and Cyrus.

The conversation started when Lance Storm said he thought that it would be a great idea to see John Cena vs. Undertaker in a WWE championship match with Undertaker’s career on the line. Storm mentioned that Undertaker would beat AJ Styles for the WWE Championship at WrestleMania.

This would lead to the fact that John Cena would be ending The Undertaker’s career and breaking Ric Flair’s record of 16 world championships at the same time. It could be one of the biggest moments in WrestleMania history.

While Ross said he thought an Undertaker vs. AJ Styles match could measure up to the Shawn Michaels matches and would be a great feud for both men. All three men agreed John Cena vs. Undertaker is a compelling match for WrestleMania.

However, Jim Ross added some fantasy booking to the subject and came up with a slightly controversial idea. Jim Ross feels that John Cena should turn heel in the match against Undertaker and then beat and retire him after that.

Cyrus agreed with Ross and felt that fans wouldn’t accept John Cena beating Ric Flair’s record if he did it as a face again. Cyrus said that the reaction would not be what the WWE wants if John Cena remains a face and breaks the record.

The Undertaker made his return to the WWE right before the Survivor Series pay-per-view and said he was back and not just for WrestleMania. Undertaker has not been seen since that time. There has been a lot of speculation about when The Undertaker will finally show back up, but Sportskeedia reported that he might be back by the end of the year.

That would be good timing because the WWE already announced that John Cena would be back on SmackDown Live on Dec. 27. What the two legends will do remains to be seen. One assumes that John Cena will immediately go after AJ Styles once again.

However, if the WWE wants to give Undertaker one last title run, they will need to have him challenge AJ Styles while John Cena faces someone else. That could play in well to the storyline of turning John Cena into a heel because he could feel that he is being passed over and grow agitated with Undertaker.

The first steps will come when John Cena returns to SmackDown Live on Dec. 27, and WWE fans will see what direction that he will take at that time. There are only three months to build to the WrestleMania storyline, but that is normal for The Undertaker.

Things should completely clear up by the time the Royal Rumble ends. The winner of that match will either face the WWE Champion or Universal Champion. The top idea for Monday Night Raw is for Roman Reigns to battle Braun Strowman, Kevin Owens to fight Chris Jericho, and Seth Rollins to face Triple H. One of those matches should be for the Universal title.

That leaves the WWE title open to possibly Undertaker vs. John Cena, unless the WWE sticks with AJ Styles through WrestleMania. Regardless, if John Cena faces Undertaker at the event, it is likely to be the final match for Undertaker and John Cena will be the man to end the legend’s career.
