Bill Clinton Hits Out At Donald Trump: Says He ‘Doesn’t Know Much’ And Can Only ‘Make Angry White Men Vote For Him’

Bill Clinton revealed his true feelings about Donald Trump and how the presidential election shaped up in an impromptu interview that took place inside a bookstore. The former U.S. president blamed FBI Director James Comey for Hillary Clinton’s loss and said Trump knows nothing but how to get “angry white men to vote for him.”

Bill Clinton answered some questions for a reporter from The Record-Review, as well as others at the bookstore. The written piece was featured in the newspaper’s weekly print edition and not online, Politico reports. The paper covers news in the Bedford and Pound Ridge, New York — near the Clintons’ home in Chappaqua.

In the interview, Clinton bluntly stated that Comey is culpable for his wife’s loss in the election and that Trump’s ability to tap into the minds of angry white voters is what won him the presidency in the end. The former president doesn’t credit Trump for anything else other than feeding into angry voters’ fears.

When someone at the bookstore asked Bill Clinton if he thought Donald Trump was smart, he didn’t mince words.

“He doesn’t know much. One thing he does know is how to get angry, white men to vote for him,” Clinton replied.

With all of the evidence gathered by U.S. intelligence that Russian hacking played a part in swinging the 2016 election, Bill Clinton cited that as another aspect of Donald Trump’s ascent to the White House.

“You would need to have a single-digit IQ not to recognize what was going on,” he said.

Bill Clinton was unhappy about Comey announcing two weeks before the election that the FBI had new material in the email investigation to examine. He believes it “cost her the election.”

Clinton shared that he spoke with Trump on the phone right after the election, describing the conversation as “cordial.” He noted that it was strange Trump was acting “like it was 15 years ago” as if they were still friends. Trump told Clinton that his wife was “tougher than I thought she’d be.”

Bill Clinton hardly agrees with Donald Trump that the win was a “landslide,” however. He brings up his own electoral votes when he ran for president in 1992.

“Landslide? I got something like 370 electoral votes,” Clinton said. “That was a landslide.”

Clinton won 370 electoral votes against sitting U.S. President George H.W. Bush in 1992 and won 379 electoral votes against Republican Sen. Bob Dole in 1996.

Bill Clinton’s attack on Donald Trump not knowing much, but how to motivate “angry white men vote for him,” comment can be taken as adding to the “basket of deplorables” comment that his wife made during the presidential race. Hillary Clinton summed up a large portion of Trump supporters as haters she felt were deplorable people who begrudged liberal progress.

As Fox News had on its site, Bill Clinton hit out at Donald Trump supporters in West Virginia months back, alleging that “they only watch Fox News.”

Bill and Hillary Clinton have largely remained out of the spotlight since the election, but are slowly resurfacing since it was revealed by both the CIA and the FBI that Russian hacking, indeed, was behind-the-scenes of the presidential election. Trump blows off the notion that his victory was secured with the help of Russia, denying it had anything to do with the outcome of his win.

Donald Trump hasn’t responded to the Bill Clinton interview. He generally reacts to verbal or written criticism against him, so he may have something to say about it soon.
