‘Frozen’ Star Idina Menzel Talks Trump Inauguration, ‘Maybe He’ll Just Have To Sing Something Himself’

Idina Menzel, star of Enchanted, the Broadway musical Rent and perhaps most famously the voice behind the song “Let It Go” of Disney’s Frozen, is no fan of the president-elect. She’s publicly thrown shade at him in recent weeks whenever she’s gotten the chance (she famously bashed his Hamilton spat at the 2016 AMAs). When talk of Donald Trump’s impending inauguration got rolling this Wednesday, Idina Menzel took the chance to blast the former reality TV star yet again.

It has been widely reported that Trump is having some “bigly” (or perhaps “big league”?) trouble filling A-list performance slots at his January 20 inauguration event. While the Trump transition team contends that they can get virtually any star they want to perform at the big event, the rumor mill says differently.

“No struggle, whatsoever. We have world-class talent, world-class entertainers reaching out to us offering their help, offering their services, so no struggle whatsoever.”

As ABC News reports (and Frozenstar Idina Menzel cattily commented on), the Trump inauguration team have only publicly announced a single performer for the upcoming D.C. bash, and unlike Idina, that person has never been the voice of a Disney princess. In fact, the only “star” that has been publicly confirmed to be performing at the January 20 party is Jackie Evancho, a runner-up on America’s Got Talent.

When she heard about the inaugural drama, Frozen star Idina Menzel had some frosty words about the president-elect and his apparent lack of A-list supporters. As Huffington Post reports, Vanity Fair brought up the rumored Trump troubles to Idina this week, and her reply was less than favorable. At least if you’re Donald Trump.

“I think it’s karma, baby. I mean, look: All the artists in the world got up and tried to get our girl [Hillary Clinton] elected, and it still didn’t happen, so we’re all still trying to recover from that.”

Frozen star Idina Menzel didn’t stop her Trump trashing there. In fact, the 45-year-old beauty had some advice for the soon-to-be president.

“Maybe he’ll just have to sing something himself. He probably thinks he has a great voice; he thinks he does everything great.”

Snap.

While the Trump transition team and inauguration planners have flatly denied that they are having trouble filling slots at next month’s shindig, there are some indications that the rumors of a virtual A-list boycott of Trump’s big night could be true. Obviously, Frozen star Idina Menzel won’t be singing “Let it Go” (or anything else) at the presidential party, Trump has also been dissed by D.C. locals.

In fact, bucking tradition, no Washington D.C. school marching bands will be showing their support on Inauguration Day. Not a single one.

On top of that, a slew of big-name talent has already come out swinging against Donald and his politics. Even on the campaign trail, well before Frozen star Idina Menzel got him in her sights, famous talents were putting up a wall between themselves and Trump. Several, including R.E.M., Neil Young, Steven Tyler, Twisted Sister, The Rolling Stones, Queen, Elton John and Adele (among others) told Trump to stop using their tunes at his campaign events. Some even took legal action against the then-presidential candidate.

There were no instances of Trump playing Frozen star Idina Menzel’s signature tune at any of his rallies, so the issue of him ceasing and desisting never came up.

Even though Idina Menzel thinks Trump might end up singing himself into the White House, it’s unlikely that the president-elect will have to resort to such extreme measures. While it does appear that his team is dealing with a bit of a talent “dry spell,” despite an American tradition of incoming presidents showing off A-list talent and support at their inauguration bashes, he does reportedly have some performers waiting in the wings.

Sure, an America’s Got Talent runner-up has been the only performer officially confirmed to be singing at the event, but that’s not the whole story. Jackie Evancho, a 16-year-old with a “yuge” talent and stellar voice, will be singing alongside classical singer Andrea Bocelli. The pair are reportedly singing a duet.

Something else Frozen star Idina Menzel also likely didn’t consider is the rumor that the Trump inauguration event could be following the blueprint laid out during George W. Bush’s second swearing-in in 2005. That part was stuffed with classical performers as opposed to the quintessential Hollywood A-list names.

One thing seems certain, though. Idina Menzel is still smarting from Trump’s unexpected presidential victory, and it seems unlikely that the Frozen star will be serenading the President-elect any time soon.
