Colorado Toddler Left Inside Car Overnight In Subzero Temperatures Found Alive

A Colorado toddler was found alive after he was left inside a vehicle overnight in subzero temperatures, Denver Post reports.

The police came across a wrecked vehicle, but inside, they found a 2-year-old little boy. Not only was the boy left in the car overnight in subzero temperatures, but her mother also called someone for a ride and simply went to bed.

Everyone must wonder, how could the mother forget about her child? According to Denver 7, the mother claimed to have been very disoriented after the accident that she simply forgot that her son was with her.

Matt Barnes, a spokesman for Thornton Police Department, told reporters that the mother did not realize that her son was not with her until Saturday morning. She then frantically called the police for help since she could not remember where her car was left.

The police eventually found her snow-covered 2013 green Ford Fusion car at a strip mall parking lot near Washington Street and East 120th Avenue in Thorton.

The toddler was suffering from frostbite and hypothermia. He was rushed to a hospital for treatment, but his current condition has not been revealed.

Nicole Carmon, 27, was arrested on charges of felony child abuse. The Thornton Police is still seeking more information for this active investigation. Should you know anything related to this case, please give them a call at (720) 977-5069.

Just a couple of days ago, a couple young children were left inside a car while their mother went into a bar. The temperatures in Canada have been well below zero, and it was revealed that it was around -18 degrees when the children sat freezing in the car for well over an hour, CBC News reports.

Lethbridge Police Service Staff Sgt. Leon Borbandy feared that this mistake could have been fatal.

“I believe if the children were left for longer there could have been a fatality.”

The police responded to a report of a crying child in a locked car around 11:30 p.m. at the Studio 54 downtown bar parking lot. The police immediately noticed a distressed toddler crying in a car seat. The police broke a window to get to the child. As an officer was approaching the toddler, another child was located under a pile of clothes.

The police requested surveillance from the bar, which revealed that the mother was inside the bar for over an hour. Borbandy was very appreciative that the concerned citizen contacted them.

“We are very fortunate and appreciative that a concerned citizen did call us and we were able to respond promptly to prevent this situation from ending in tragedy.”

It was revealed that the children did receive hospital care, and has since been released and in the care of a family member.

“It kind of goes without saying, however children, especially young children, rely on adults in their lives to look after them. Young children should never be left unattended in vehicles regardless of the time of year.”

Fortunately both cases ended better than what they could have, and all children lived, but police are very concerned about parents leaving their children unattended in vehicles. Throughout the summer, many children were found dead after being left in very hot cars for hours on end.

We can’t forget the case of the off-duty officer who left her 3-year-old daughter inside a hot car while she visited another officer. It was revealed by Palm Beach Post that little Cheyenne Hyer was left in the car for at least four hours when it was nearly 100 degrees outside.

During the investigation, Cheyenne’s mother and Long Beach Police Department Officer Cassie Barker and Sgt. Clark Ladner, the officer she was visiting, were immediately put on administrative leave without pay. Following the investigation, both officers were fired, IB Times revealed.

Unfortunately, too many children are dying because of this careless mistake. A father has invented a simple device to remind parents when they have children in the car. The device is called Sense-A-Life, Huffington Post reports.

Sense-A-Life is a wireless and Bluetooth-powered system that uses a cell-phone app, sensors, and car speakers. A sensor attaches to the car seat. A second sensor goes under the driver seat. The device will alert you if your child has been left inside the car by sending an audio message through the phone app, “Please remove the child from the seat.” If the child remains inside the vehicle for more than a few minutes after being alerted, Sense-A-Life will then alert a second parent or caregiver as a backup plan.
