President Obama released an ad today in an effort to rebut the claims that Mitt Romney made in a recent political ad about Chrysler, Jeep, and the auto industry in Detroit.

Romney’s ad claims that Chrysler is moving Jeep production from Ohio to China. Several news sources have criticized Mitt Romney’s Jeep claim saying that it is misleading and today President Obama countered with his own ad.

The Obama ad rebuts Romney’s Jeep claim calling it an outright lie.

The Obama ad says:

“After Romney’s false claim of Jeep outsourcing to China Chrysler itself has refuted Romney’s lie. The Truth? Jeep is adding jobs in Ohio.”

The ad, which uses a sound clip of Mitt Romney saying “let Detroit go bankrupt,” ends with the message: “Mitt Romney: Wrong then. Dishonest now.”

Bill Clinton and Joe Biden continued to hammer down on Romney’s Jeep claim at an event today in Youngstown, Ohio.

Clinton said:

“Now it turns out that Jeep is reopening in China because they made so much money here they can afford to do it and they are going on with their plans here … They put out a statement today saying that it was the biggest load of bull in the world that they would consider shutting down their American operation. They are roaring in America thanks to people like the people of Ohio.”

Here’s the new Obama ad.

Romney spokeswoman Amanda Henneberg said that the Obama campaign is trying to argue against the facts.

In an email to the National Journal, Henneberg writes:

“It appears the Obama campaign is less concerned with engaging in a meaningful conversation about President Obama’s failed policies and more concerned with arguing against facts about their record they dislike. The American people will see their desperate arguments for what they are.”

Gualberto Ranieri, Chrysler’s vice president of communications, tried to set the record straight earlier this week when he said that the company had no intention of outsourcing jobs to China.

Ranieri said:

“Let’s set the record straight: Jeep has no intention of shifting production of its Jeep models out of North America to China. It’s simply reviewing the opportunities to return Jeep output to China, for the world’s largest auto market. U.S. Jeep assembly lines will continue to stay in operation.”
