A Tacoma, Washington, Man Got Rid Of A Package Thief In The Most ‘Explosive’ Way Possible [Video]

What do you do when a thief keeps stealing packages left on your doorstep? Setting up a surveillance camera so you can catch the thief in the act is a good starting point; and from there you can maybe notify the police or whatever. But for Tacoma man Jaireme Barrow, he wanted justice that was a little more “explosive.”

As WECT reports, Barrow orders car parts through the mail pretty frequently. Lately, though, those parts haven’t been arriving. He suspected a thief might be afoot, so he decided to exact a little vengeance on the thief. However, he wasn’t interested in maiming the person, so he rigged up a device that would scare the bejesus out of him or her, but not do any real harm.

He recorded surveillance video of the thief getting theirs, and posted it on the internet.

“I got fed up with having my Jeep parts stolen so I decided to rig a package with a 12 gauge blank shell. Press play to see the aftermath.”

You can watch the video of justice being served below, but be warned: this video contains strong language.

For those who aren’t able to watch videos, here’s what happens: the first part of the video appears to be taken from higher up on Barrow’s house, and shows the roof and then the street outside. A black SUV parks by the side of the road, and a woman emerges and approaches the house. Seconds later, you hear a scream, and the woman runs in terror back to her SUV and then takes off in a hurry. The second half is taken from inside the alcove, and you can see the woman’s face more clearly. You can also see her pick up the package, then scream in terror and flee. As an added bonus, you can hear Jaireme emerge from the house and say a few choice words to the package thief.

“F*****g dumb-a** motherf****r!”

Over on Facebook, Jaireme engaged in a little bit of self-congratulations for his clever serving of justice.

“The reaction you make when you think you’ve been shot by a 12-gauge while trying to steal a package. It’s hard to capture how truly loud this device is, but [expletive] is it effective! ‘Tis the season!”

On LiveLeak, where Barrow originally posted the video, a few haters have questioned whether or not the video is real, according to WMAZ. He insists it’s legit.

“I wanted to even the playing field a little and make them think twice when considering package theft as a career path.”

You may be wondering whether or not Barrow’s means of dispatching his package thief is legal. The answer is — probably. Courts are generally pretty hostile to booby traps; so if you were to, for example, set up a trip-wire in your garage so that whenever a thief entered and tripped it, it fired a gun and it injured or killed him or her, you’d be liable for assault or murder. But a blank shotgun shell rigged up to explode from within the confines of a package is unlikely to hurt anyone, and scaring the crap out of someone is not a crime.

And even if the package thief thought she had a criminal case against Jaireme, she’d have to confess to being a thief in order to get the ball rolling on criminal charges. It’s probably in her best interest to just consider it a lesson learned and move on.

As of this writing, the package thief who appears to have been permanently deterred from a life of crime by an exploding package has not been apprehended.
