Kate Middleton And Prince William Continue To Push Royal Boundaries And Break Tradition, But How?

The Duchess of Cambridge, Kate Middleton, and the Duke of Cambridge, Prince William, have made a name for themselves as young royals who are set on pushing the boundaries and starting their own traditions.

Sources share that Kate and William are reportedly “sticking to their new Christmas tradition” that involves celebrating at home as opposed to spending the day with the rest of the British royal family, as the Irish Independent states.

The publication states that the royal couple, who now have two little ones, Prince George and Princess Charlotte, have selected to spend the holidays at their grand estate in Norfolk, Anmer Hall, since 2014. The tradition involves a visit by Kate’s parents and the rest of the Middleton clan. This year, Kate and William are reportedly excited to make the holiday even more family-oriented and less focused on the formalities of years prior.

“Since they had children, Kate and Prince William have been slowly making a couple of changes each year. Kate’s goal is to make Christmas more of a close family occasion, and less of a formal one,” a source told the publication.

Prince George and Princess Charlotte will apparently open their gifts at Anmer Hall on Christmas Day, followed by attending church with the rest of the royal family before they return home to spend the remainder of the day with the Middletons. The rest of the royals will spend time at one of Queen Elizabeth’s estates, Sandringham.

The insider added, “This way, Will and Kate can really enjoy the look of joy on their children’s faces.”

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge will, however, follow the usual royal traditions on Christmas Eve, when they will exchange gifts with the other royals and then rejoin them for their annual shoot.

It has been since 2011, following their royal wedding, that Prince William has spent the holiday season with Kate’s family and has said to be entirely taken with the “low-key celebrations,” which have inspired him to do his best to incorporate such traditions on his own side of the family.

This year, Princess Charlotte is set to join her brother, George, for the excitement of meeting Santa Claus at the Thursford Christmas fair. Prince William and Kate Middleton are also reportedly fond of going for long walks in the woods by their estate, as was William’s mother, Diana. They will likely take their little ones along, and the young couple is also keen on karaoke and board games, the source added.

Prince William’s younger brother, Prince Harry, has been making headlines more frequently due to his new relationship with Suits star Meghan Markle. The royal went public with the romance last month and has also been spotted pushing the boundaries himself by inviting Markle to stay with him at Kensington Palace. As for the manner in which the two will spend their holidays, experts have stated that Meghan would likely not yet be invited to attend the royal Christmas events on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. Yet, it’s been reported that Markle and her prince are possibly planning a getaway to celebrate the season on their own.

To ring in the season, Prince Harry and Meghan were spotted buying a Christmas tree in London, while the actress was there visiting her new beau. BBC News shares about the sighting that had staff members where the tree was bought quite surprised.

“The couple apparently bought a 6ft Nordmann Fir at the Pine and Needles store in Battersea Park on Monday. According to staff at the store, they looked very happy together and walked off holding hands – with the prince carrying the £65 tree on his shoulder….Store manager John Wilkie said Ms Markle, an actress, spoke with server Zaqia Crawford – a fellow American – about missing food from home.”
