Tannehill, the eighth overall pick in the 2012 NFL draft, was hurt just two possessions into Dolphin’s 30-9 rout of the Jets on Sunday.

Though coach Philbin — sticking to his usual policy of giving information when the week’s first injury report is released Wednesday — was careful not to make any promises about his young star, he did say Tannehill sounded upbeat and optimistic about the possibility that he’ll be ready suit when the 4-3 Dolphins take on top draft selection Andrew Luck and the Indianapolis Colts on Sunday.

“You would hope players are,” Philbin said, “I don’t know much, but it was a good conversation on the plane.”

Should Tannehill be unable to start, Miami will rely on the services of six-year veteran Matt Moore, who turned in a 11 of 19, 131-yard, one-TD performance in Ryan’s absence Sunday.

“I’m happy for him,” Philbin said of Moore. “The guy’s a professional; football is very important to him. The guy’s respected by the staff, and the players in the locker room. I’m not surprised he played well. It’s a credit to him, and Zac [Taylor] and Mike [Sherman], to have him ready to go.”

Moore, who was named team MVP last season after going 6-3 in his last nine starts, hadn’t taken a snap all season prior to relieving Tannehill against the Jets.
