Miami, FL – The 12-year-old daughter of US Senator Marco Rubio, the Florida Republican who was on Mitt Romney’s vice presidential shortlist, is out of the hospital and resting at home with her family.

Amanda Rubio was involved in a golf cart accident on Saturday in Miami and was airlifted to Miami Children’s Hospital with a head injury. Sen. Rubio left the campaign trail, where he had been stumping for Gov. Romney in Kissimmee, Florida, to return to Miami to be by her side.

Sen. Rubio was spotted talking on a cell phone outside the Romney campaign bus for several minutes at about 6:45 pm on Saturday after he apparently learned of the accident involving the golf cart collision. WebProNews reports that “Rubio was travelling with Mitt Romney on his bus when he was informed of the news, and the group quickly pulled over so that Rubio could join a police escort in order to be joined with his family.”

According to the Miami Herald, Sen. Rubio’s office released a statement that said in part:

“[Amanda] is recuperating from a concussion. Her condition has stabilized and should improve in the coming days. Her prognosis is good and she is expected to make a full recovery.”

The senator and his wife Jeanette also expressed gratitude in the statement for “the many messages of support and prayers for their daughter. And grateful to the Miami-Dade Fire Department and the staff at the Pediatric Trauma Center at Miami Children’s Hospital for their excellent care.”

Amanda is the oldest of the Rubios’ four children.
