2009-10 NHL Preview: Buffalo Sabers

For a team that missed the 2008-09 NHL playoffs by just two points the Buffalo Sabers have been strangely quiet for mush of this off season. Of course they have finished 10th in the Eastern Conference for the past two years. This team fell asleep during the off-season, they were so excited about Terrell Owens coming to town they forgot to improve their team, or they think that if a few things had been different last year they were a playoff team.

The way the Sabers front office sees it had Goal Tender Ryan Miller been healthy last year they make the playoffs. They also feel if they can keep Thomas Vanek and Tim Connolly off the injured list that they will be that much better. That is the reason they have been so quiet, they feel they have the pieces to take the next step.

While many Sabers fans may be angry at General Manager Darcy Regier’s lack of big of season moves. However the good news for Sabers fans is they had no big departures either. Beyond losing talented defensemen Jaroslav Spacek, the core of this team remains, and that core is good enough to make a run at the playoffs in 2010.

Additions- D Joe DiPenta, RW Mike Grier, and D Steve Montador

Subtractions- LW Mathieu Darche, D Michael Fuck, RW Ales Kotalik, RW Colin Murphy, and D Jaroslav Spacek
