Funimation, the popular anime licensing company known for bringing many popular animes to American audiences, recently announced the English dub premiere of Mob Psycho 100.

According to an article by FUNimation themselves, the English dub premiere of Mob Psycho 100 is happening on FunimationNow today, Sunday December 11, at 9:30 p.m. EST. They will start with the first episode followed by upcoming episodes each week. The English voice cast was also revealed during the announcement which includes the following voice actors.

  • Shigeo: Kyle McCarley
  • Reigen: Christopher Niosi
  • Ritsu: Max Mittelman
  • Ekubo: Michael Sorich
  • Hanazawa: Erik Kimerer

It was only a matter of time until Mob Psycho 100 was given an English dub given its popularity. First and foremost, it is an anime inspired by a webcomic created by One, who is best known for another webcomic: One Punch Man.

As for Mob Psycho 100, the synopsis of the anime explains that it is about Kageyama Shigeo, better known as Mob. He is an eighth grader with powerful psychic abilities. He works under his not-so-capable master, Reigen, and Mob uses his powers to exorcise evil spirits. Unfortunately, there is a thought that hinders Mob from reaching his destiny and that is his longing to be normal. This causes him to suppress his powers and feelings until he hits 100 percent, a point where his pent-up emotions are unleashed and results in a darker power taking over.

As for the English dub voice cast, Kyle McCarley has voiced Mikazuki Augus from Mobile Suit Gundam: Iron-Blooded Orphans, Ikuya Ogura from Ajin: Demi-Human, and Shinji Matou from Fate/Stay Night: Unlimited Blade Works. He is also known for voicing Zeroken in Disgaea 5: Alliance of Vengeance. Christopher Niosi has voiced Savarin Canele from Mobile Suit Gundam: Iron-Blooded Orphans, Yujiro Hattori from Bakuman, and Khoury from Pokemón. Michael Sorich has voiced Tonpa from Hunter x Hunter and Shinsuke Tanba in Knights of Sidonia: Battle for Planet Nine. Max Mittelman and Erik Kimerer are probably the two voice actors on the list most anime fans will recognize the most. Both voiced characters in One-Punch Man; the former was Saitama while the latter was his “greatest rival” Speed-o’-Sound Sonic.

As for the upcoming second season, the next story focuses on paranormal activities at a girls high school, solving urban legends, ESP-powered stalkers, and a plant power-up for Mob. One story arc puts Mob in a mental world where six months is the equivalence of 30 real minutes, and negative emotions fuel psychic powers. While Mob’s mental state puts him at a disadvantage in this mental world, he’ll still manage to come out on top, while learning life lessons to boot.

From a character development perspective, the most interesting point is when Mob finally realizes Reigen has just been using him for his psychic powers. Going their separate ways works out well for Reigen at first, but eventually his fraudulent past catches up with him. As you might expect, events conspire to bring the pair back together again.
