‘Outlander’ Season 3: All We Know On Jamie And Claire’s Reunion

With production of Outlander Season 3 nearly halfway finished in Scotland, spoilers have been popping up all over the internet. By far, the biggest spoiler of the season is how and when Jamie (Sam Heughan) and Claire (Caitriona Balfe) will be reunited after their separation at the end of Season 2.
The Season 2 finale ended with pregnant Claire traveling through the stones to resume her life with first husband Frank (Tobias Menzies) in 1948. Her departure devastated Jamie, who was headed into the doomed battle of Culloden in the 18th century.
Our first clues come from Voyager, the third book in Diana Gabaldon’s Outlander book series, upon which Season 3 is based. In the book, Claire returns through the stones and reunites with Jamie in a print shop in 1766 Scotland. However, the Outlander TV show has somewhat deviated from the book series, and Sam Heughan already admitted to PopSugar that Season 3 will depart somewhat from the storyline outline in Voyager.
“We always try to stick as close as we can to the books, but obviously it’s hard to make a book episodic. I think there is going to be stuff there that the fans will recognize since we put in as much detail as possible, but there’s some really incredible moments. Certainly, the beginning of Season 3 is a slight deviation from the book.”
So where does that leave the iconic print shop interlude? Well, we do know that it occurs in Outlander Season 3, thanks to co-executive producer Matthew B. Roberts, who recently posted a photo of a script with the scene on Twitter.

The problem is that the script says “Jamie enters” the shop, which is different from the way the scene unfolds in Voyager, which a fan quickly pointed out to Roberts.

Whether you trust the show’s creative team to do justice to the scene or not, we at least know the scene has been filmed. So now you may be wondering when the reunion will take place in Outlander Season 3. A fan asked showrunner Ronald D. Moore that very question back in September.

Even if Moore was cagey about when Jamie and Claire will be reunited, he softened the blow by promising more intimate moments between the couple in Season 3.

Caitriona Balfe and Sam Heughan have also offered some juicy insights into Jamie and Claire’s reunion.
Balfe recently talked to Vanity Fair about what fans can expect in Outlander Season 3 and acknowledged some viewers were disappointed by the lack of sexy moments between the star-crossed lovers last season.
“I definitely heard that they missed a lot of the intimacy between Jamie and Claire, which I think we were sort of expecting. I think even Sam and I sort of missed — especially in the beginning because it was so heavy on the politics — I think we were all missing those more intimate moments. They have so many of their iconic fan moments that they really are looking forward to, so you definitely always hear whenever some of those are not there. I’m trying to think of specifics for you, but the one that I just kept hearing, from what I saw on my Twitter: ‘Where’s the sex?'”
But Balfe indicated Outlander Season 3 would be different, and Jamie and Claire’s reunion will be something worth waiting for.
“There will be some other sex going on,” Balfe explained.
“I think to really let the reunion and everything that’s going to happen once Jamie and Claire see each other. I think it’s really special. Maybe they’ll have to wait a little bit, but I don’t think it’s going to be as scarce as last season, shall we say?”
Meanwhile, Heughan told PopSugar that Jamie and Claire will be greatly affected by their time apart from each other in Outlander Season 3.
“Time has passed, they become different people, but they do have this great love for each other and this great bond. Ultimately, that’s their saving grace, and what brings them back together. They have so much history. It’s really wonderful to play these characters who have moved on from where they were in Season 1, but, hopefully, you’ll see bits of what attracted them to each other in the first place.”
