Paul George Headed To Detroit NBA Rumor Squashed: Pacers Are Not Trading Him

An NBA rumor that NBA superstar Paul George of the Pacers was being traded to the Detroit Pistons started to spread like wildfire yesterday.

Per MLive, fans of the Pacers and Paul George can stop worrying and stop sharing stories claiming Paul George is headed to Detroit because this NBA rumor isn’t true. In fact, the team president-coach Stan Van Gundy confirmed the Indiana Pacers and the Detroit Pistons are not currently in talks and it is nothing more than an NBA rumor.

It didn’t take long for several media outlets located in Detroit to pick up the story and it quickly spread across several social media platforms. In addition to confirming the Pacers and the Detroit Pistons were not talking about trading Paul George, Stan Van Gundy also talked briefly about the NBA rumor in question.

“I love sports. Like somebody thinks of an idea, and then they write it into an article as if they’ve really got a source. I’d like to know the source is, because that guy should talk to us.”

NBA Rumors: Andrew Bogut Likely Targeted By Boston Celtics Before Trade Deadline

As NBA fans may recall, this isn’t even the first time Van Gundy has squashed an NBA rumor regarding his team and trading players.

In February, before the annual NBA trade deadline, the coach of the Detroit Pistons accused the media of “making up” rumors when he was asked about a report which claimed Detroit was trading Brandon Jennings to Brooklyn for Thaddeus Young.

Last February, the coach also had something to say about NBA rumors spreading on social media and via news outlets. He claimed that NBA fans had to be careful with what they read online as a large portion of information regarding player trades isn’t true and will never happen the way these media outlets claim things will.

“And you guys know it too — 99.9 percent of the stuff that’s out there will never happen. Mostly because 98 percent of it’s just made up. It’s just made up.”

This NBA Rumor Doesn’t Make Sense

The biggest issue with this NBA rumor which suggested Paul George was headed to Detroit is the fact that it didn’t make sense for the Pacers to be trading their superstar player.

In order for the Indiana Pacers to even entertain the idea of trading Paul George to Detroit, the Pistons would have to offer an incredible deal. Yahoo Sports speculated the Pistons were willing to give up a lot to get Paul George on their team including Tobias Harris, Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, and Stanley Johnson. In exchange for those three players, the Pacers would send Paul George and Monta Ellis to Detroit.

While some could argue Paul George is superstar player and would be an incredible addition to the Detroit Pistons, it still seems like an awful lot for the team to be willing to give up in exchange for a player. Furthermore, if Paul George really is an incredible NBA player, why would the Indiana Pacers even consider trading him in the first place?

According to Detroit Free Press, Stan Van Gundy was in disbelief when he heard the NBA rumor that Paul George was headed to Detroit. “Yeah, it’s just being finalized,” he said responding to the rumor with an extremely sarcastic tone.
