‘Luke Cage’ Season 2 Release Date TBA, ‘The Defenders’ Crossover And Things To Expect

Marvel’s Luke Cage is officially coming back for Season 2 and you will get to see a lot more of Luke before the next season is released. It’s the third Netflix Marvel series to get the greenlight, following Daredevil and Jessica Jones, the latter in which the bulletproof Harlem native was introduced.

While Luke Cage Season 2 is yet to get an official release date, next up in Netflix’s Marvel Universe is Iron Fist and the first season of The Defenders, which will feature Jessica Jones, Daredevil, Iron Fish, and Luke Cage. It is also likely that the second season of Jessica Jones and Daredevil Season 3 will air before Season 2 of Luke Cage. Therefore, we may not get the second season until 2018.

Luke Cage’s symbolism as a bulletproof black man in a hoody and intricate storytelling helped make the first season a hit with fans and critics alike. It’s likely that The Defenders, which is coming out in 2017 will continue where the first season left off.

In the finale of Luke Cage, his new love interest Claire Temple tells him that she knows “a great lawyer,” which is the perfect setup for Luke meeting up with Daredevil. This suggests that we see how Luke gets out of prison in The Defenders, rather than the second season of Luke Cage.

In the comics, Jessica Jones and Luke Cage end up having a child. Therefore, we can look forward to their complicated relationship now that Luke is hooking up with Claire Temple and he will have to work with Jessica in The Defenders.

As for Luke Cage Season 2, the finale teased an upgraded Diamondback who shares a genetic relationship to Luke. Dr. Noah Burstein is going to attempt to recreate the abilities he gave Luke in Diamondback. We will have to wait for Season 2 to find out what Burstein makes of Willis Stryker or if he is the main antagonist.

Simone Missick who plays Misty Stone will also appear in The Defenders alongside Luke Cage. Missick has teased her character getting the bionic arm in an interview with IGN:

“I think it was a great kind of teaser for the fans you know because everyone wants Misty to have that arm,” Missick told IGN. “I’ve never seen anyone want me to lose an appendage more. So, I think that they wanted to play with that and give people the ‘Will it happen or will it not?'”

According to Inverse, the “Heroes for Hire” company with Luke Cage and Iron Fist may happen. Luke initially starts the organization on his own but ends up having a successful partnership with Iron Fist. Therefore, we may get some good chemistry between the Marvel heroes in The Defenders.

In the first episode of Luke Cage, after he gets lucky with Misty Knight she notices that he talks in his sleep and stated that he mentioned Shades and Comanche. The latter was briefly introduced in a scene in prison where Shades Alvarez and Comanche beat up Luke in prison. Comanche and Shades become “Hoodlums for Hire,” and have an epic feud in the comics. They are expected to get abilities from Ward Meachum, who will be introduced in Iron Fist. However, don’t get too excited as it is not clear how much Netflix is going to implement from the comics but they have many interesting angles they can take with the crossover Marvel heroes.

Luke Cage is the biggest hit in Netflix Marvel universe so far. Therefore, many fans are looking forward to an epic follow-up.
