‘Pokemon GO’ Data Miners Discover Gen 2 Sounds, Costumes As Niantic Confirms Grand December 12 Patch

It appears that Pokemon GO is indeed set for its most important update to date within the next few days, as the official international Pokemon account confirmed through Twitter that something very significant would happen in the mobile game on December 12. While it remains to be seen if the December 12 announcement would see the rollout of the next 100 monsters of Generation 2 or if it would feature the reveal of the Gen 1 legendaries, one thing seems to be sure: Pokemon GO is going to experience some massive changes before the year ends.

The official announcement that more Pokemon would indeed be coming to the game has all but set the PoGO community on fire. After all, Pokemon GO has had quite a dry spell lately, with numerous players still calling out Niantic for neglecting features such as PvP, Pokemon trading, breeding, as well as some very basic features such as in-game tracking. While some of these issues, such as the in-game tracker, have been addressed, numerous aspects of the game remain open for a lot of improvement.

Despite Niantic’s consistent tweaks and improvements, the game remains lacking in several aspects, most notably in player engagement. After all, it is the lack of features in the game and its repetitive nature that are largely seen as the reasons why numerous players opted to drop the game within weeks after its initial release. Fortunately, data miners from Pokemon GO-themed website The Silph Road have noted that the game’s most recent update revealed a lot of new, very encouraging changes that would most likely be rolled out in the game very soon.

First off, data mining activities on the latest version of Pokemon GO revealed that sound files for the next 100 monsters have already been added to the game’s codes. This is highly encouraging since the same findings were observed in the weeks leading up to Ditto’s release. Thus, with the sound files for the next 100 creatures already added in the game, it appears like Niantic is indeed making the final preparations for the highly anticipated Generation 2 rollout, according to Forbes.

This is not all, however, as tags for gender-specific creatures and baby Pokemon have also been discovered within the game’s codes. With these in mind, it appears that Niantic is preparing to include breeding very soon. Breeding is one of the key features of traditional Pokemon games. Thus, the fact that Niantic seems to be gearing up for the introduction of the highly-requested feature in the augmented reality mobile title has been received very warmly by the PoGO community.

Apart from this, references to shiny Pokemon have also been discovered in the codes of the mobile game’s most recent update. Shiny Pokemon are creatures that are colored differently than their conventional counterparts. While the stats of these creatures are identical to their more common siblings, their different color palette makes them extremely rare. In a lot of ways, introducing shiny Pokemon to the game would be very beneficial for Niantic, as players who have already caught the current Gen 1 lineup would have another set of creatures to hunt for. Coupled with the Gen 2 update, the introduction of shiny Pokemon would definitely make the game fresh once more.

One thing that has managed to surprise avid PoGO players in The Silph Road‘s most recent data mining initiatives were references to Pokemon costumes. From what could be determined from the game’s current codes so far, it seems like Pokemon costumes would be tied closely with the game’s themed events. Currently, references to Pokemon “Holiday” costumes are present in the game, which might be a reference to the speculated upcoming Pokemon GO Christmas event.

While the specific details of the massive Pokemon GO announcement on December 12 remain unknown at this point, all signs seem to be pointing to the possibility of a Generation 2 rollout. After all, the codes for the next 100 monsters have already been in the game for a while, and now, sound files and references to breeding have also been found. While the specifics of the upcoming PoGO updates still remain to be seen, the recent discoveries in the codes of Pokemon GO‘s latest patch are very encouraging. Now, all Niantic has to do is introduce PvP battles and a trading system. With these features included in the game, Niantic could rest assure that Pokemon GO would re-emerge as the world’s most dominant mobile game.
