Rihanna Wants Fans To Stop Pitting Women Against Women

Rihanna has an important message for her fans. She wants them to stop pitting her against Beyonce. She is insisting that she’s not in competition with the powerhouse woman and songwriter amid the news of the 2017 Grammys nominations.

The nominations for the 2017 Grammy Awards are here. Rihanna was not happy to hear that her latest album, ANTI, was snubbed for Album of the Year, and her hit song “Work,” was not even nominated as one of the songs of the year. Rihanna took to Instagram to “like” a photo, which shows her wearing a Carnival outfit and the words “SHOOK” splashed across her breasts – with her breasts recreating the “OO,” according to People. It led some of Beyonce’s fans to believe that she agreed with the following caption.

“Congrats and all to @badgalriri and all for her 8 Grammy nods but tbh f*** them because they snubbed her for Song of the Year and Album of the Year,” the user wrote in the caption.

“Like how my n****!? I think they didn’t want her tied or passing someone else *cough cough*. Cause if they wouldn’t have played her she would have been in the lead with most Grammy nods. F**k u Grammys, ANTI did amazing things this year and y’all played her. I think y’all shook! [SIC]”

Rihanna herself revealed that she has no hard feelings for Queen Bey or the Grammy committee, and made that clear. After Rih was swarmed with bee emojis from Bey’s faithful “Beyhive” fan base, she returned to that very Instagram post to explain herself. She told fans to stop pitting her against Beyonce and other black female artists.

“I wish y’all drop this topic and see things from the bigger picture!” the 28-year-old singer clarified in the comments section.

“We don’t need to be putting black women against each other! We deserve to be celebrated, and the Grammy Academy agrees!”

However, Rihanna revealed that she didn’t give much thought when she “liked” the expletive post on Instagram. The “Needed Me” singer only gave the Instagram post her approval because she thought she looked good in the photo.

“I never actually read your caption, thought the pic was funny and moved right along! I’m pretty af, yes. But this is just unnecessary!”

Both Beyonce and Rihanna released unbelievable and memorable albums this year. Earlier on this year, Rihanna finally released her eighth studio album after taking a break from music for the past two years. She delivered with her experimental new album, which has been praised by both fans and music critics.

Meanwhile, Beyonce shocked fans when she premiered her new visual album Lemonade on HBO back in April. The visual elements and powerful imagery are what put Queen Bey’s album on the map. However, that hasn’t stopped fans from comparing Rihanna and Beyonce. This isn’t the first time that the singers have been pitted against each other, according to E! News. Rihanna told Vogue that the rivalry started by their fans is something she chooses not to focus on.

“Here’s the deal,” she told the fashion publication.

“[People] just get so excited to feast on something that’s negative. Something that’s competitive. Something that’s, you know, a rivalry. And that’s just not what I wake up to. Because I can only do me. And nobody else is going to be able to do that.”

It’s obviously something that their fans shouldn’t focus on either, but that won’t stop them from comparing the two artists. What are your thoughts on Rihanna’s response to the Instagram drama?
