Indiana Republican Senate nominee Richard Mourdock made some fairly alarming comments regarding rape and pregnancy this week, providing Jon Stewart with yet another installment of the “surprisingly recurring” series, “Republican Candidate Said What About Rape Now?”

During a debate on Tuesday, Mourdock said that pregnancies from rape are all part of God’s plan. Right-leaning pols and pundits are universally fleeing candidate Mourdock while the more left-leaning are heaping on the shame. Jon Stewart lambasted Mourdock over his comments on The Daily Show, even ribbing Mourdock’s later clarification of:

“I absolutely abhor violence.  I abhor any kind of sexual violence.  I abhor rape.  And I am absolutely confident, as I stand here, that the God that I worship abhors violence, abhors sexual violence, and abhors rape.”

“So, now that I’ve cleared up that I do not worship a rape-loving deity…. ” mocked Stewart.

Stewart also made an effort to tie Mourdock’s rape comments to the Republican Party as a whole. “Where does Mourdock get his crazy, fringe ideas about rape and abortion anyway?” Asked Stewart, before suggesting Mitt Romney’s running mate Paul Ryan. “… according to the Republican Party platform, and the man who wants to be a heartbeat away from the presidency, if a woman wants to have a baby, in vitro fertilization, she cannot. Rape, she has to.”
