The Most Popular Baby Names And Celebrity Baby Name Trends Of 2016 [Photos]


Babycenter has released their top 100 baby names for boys and girls in 2016, and we’ve also rounded up the top celebrity baby names of the year.

The top ten baby names for girls in 2016 were Sophia, Emma, Olivia, Ava, Mia, Isabella, Riley, Aria, Zoe, and Charlotte, according to Babycenter, who had over 400,000 parents report the names they picked for their babies in 2016. The top ten baby names for boys were Aiden, Lucas, Liam, Noah, Ethan, Mason, Caden, Oliver, and Elijah.

The parenting site lists the top 100 names for baby boys and girls. However, you can also type in your favorite baby name to see where it falls on the list if it’s farther down.

What about the popular baby names for celebrities in 2016? Nameberry has compiled a list of all of the celebrity babies born so far this year along with their names.

Some of the notable baby names for November include Mila Kunis and Ashton Kutcher’s new baby boy, Dimitri Portwood, and Blac Chyna and Rob Kardashian’s new baby girl, Dream Renee. Russell Brand and Laura Gallagher welcomed baby Mabel last month. Fans of the Bachelor and Bachelorette franchise might be interested to hear that JP and Ashley Hebert Rosenbaum named their baby girl Essex Reese.

October saw the birth of Valentina Angelina to Kevin and Danielle Jonas. Adelaide Rue was born to Sara Rue and Kevin Price, and Olivia Wilde and Jason Sudeikis welcomed baby girl Daisy Josephine. Kerry Washington and Nnamdi Asomugha welcomed baby boy Caleb Kelechi.

James has become a very popular middle name for celebrity baby girls and boys. Just in October, there were three celebrity babies given James as a middle name: Cleo James for Nev Schulman and Laura Perlongo, Sally James for Audra McDonald and Will Swenson, and Major James for Eva Amurri and Kyle Martino.

In September, Tatyana Ali and Vaughn Rasberry named their new baby boy Edward Aszard. Behati Prinsloo and Adam Levine named their new baby girl Dusty Rose. Hilaria and Alec Baldwin gave their baby boy two middle names, going with Leonardo Angel Charles, as did Elissa and Brent Slater, with Forester Bruce Elijah, and Erica Rose and Galen Gentry, who named their baby girl Holland Rose Madeleine. Other notable names for October included Tiger, born to Paul and Yana Watson, and Kodah Dash, born to Rod and Bryiana Dyrdek.

August saw many short and simple names for celebrity babies, including Liv (for Bar Refaeli and Adi Ezra), Hero (for Terrence Howard and Mira Pak), Monte (for Carice Van Houten and Guy Pearce) and Justice (for Nate Parker and Sarah Di Santo). River was a popular celebrity baby name for the month, as Jamie and Jools Oliver named their new baby River Rocket and Megan Fox and Brian Austin Green named their baby Journey River. Continuing with the nature theme and the trend for more middle names, Holly Madison and Pasquale Rotella welcomed Forest Leonardo Antonio.

In July, there were a few classic baby names for celebrity offspring. Anna Chlumsky and Shaun So named their baby daughter Clara Elizabeth, and Nicky Hilton and James Rothschild went with Lily Grace Victoria for their baby girl. Benjamin and Nila Hollingsworth named their baby boy a classic sounding name as well, Hemingway Nash. More unusual celebrity baby names for the month included Onyx Solace (born to Alanis Morissette and Mario Treadway) and Zyla Moon (born to Wale and Claudia Alexis Jourdan). More traditional names were also popular, with entries like Lula Rose (born to Liv Tyler and David Gardner), Levi William (born to Alex Murrell and Kyle Mark Johnson), Henry Harris (born to Rachael Harris and Christian Hebel) and Stenton David (born to Duncan Jones and Rodene Ronquillo). Another entry for Bachelor and Bachelorette fans was born this month, with Ali Fedotowksy and Kevin Manno welcoming baby girl Molly Sullivan.

June saw more short and simple baby names, including Violet (born to Emily Blunt and John Krasinski), Shane (born to Erika Christensen and Cole Maness), Rowan (born to Jordana Brewster and Andrew Form) and Roman (born to Natalia Vodianova and Antoine Arnault). More interesting celebrity baby names for the month included Tess and Nick Holliday’s Bowie Juniper and Greg Rikaart and Robert Sudduth’s Montgomery Argo. Ginnifer Goodwin and Josh Dallas welcomed Hugo Wilson, and Spike and Cody Mendelsohn welcomed Ace Thomas. Continuing with the trend of mixing boy and girl names for babies, Audrina Partridge and Corey Bohan named their baby girl Kirra Max, and Robin Tunney and Nicky Marmet named their baby boy Oscar Holly.

May saw quite a lot of unusual celebrity baby names, including Ode Mountain (Jena Malone and Ethan De Lorenzo), Boomer Robert (Michael Phelps and Nicole Johnson) and Izzy Oona (Eddie Murphy and Paige Butcher). More traditional baby names included Gracie Jane and Alice Rose (Ronnie and Sally Wood), Josephine Kate (Jessica Capshaw and Christopher Gavigan) and Amada Lee (Eva Mendes and Ryan Gosling). Again, short and simple celebrity baby names were a hit, including Sam (Keri Russell and Matthew Rhys), Story (Soleil Moon Frye and Jason Goldberg) and Tripp (Aj McCarron and Katherine Webb McCarron).

April saw the birth of royal baby Prince Alexander Erik Hubertus Bertil to Prince Carl Philip and Princess Sofia of Sweden. John Legend and Chrissy Teigen welcomed Luna Simone, and Kelly Clarkson and Brandon Blackstock welcomed Remington Alexander. More unusual celebrity baby names for the month included Winner (born to Nya Lee) and Jru (born to Draya Michelle and Orlando Scandrick).

March saw the birth of another royal baby — Oscar Carl Olaf, born to Crown Princess Victoria and Prince Daniel Of Sweden. Chris and Adrienne Bosh welcomed twins Phoenix and Lennox. Donald Trump got a new grandson with Theodore James, born to Ivanka Trump And Jared Kushner. Anne Hathaway and Adam Shulman named their baby Jonathan Rosebanks. James and Kimberly Van Der Beek named their baby girl Emilia. Ziggy and Orly Marley named their baby boy Isaiah Sion Robert Nesta.

February did not have many celebrity babies, but it did see the birth of Milo to Cat Deeley and Patrick Kielty, Rocco Robin to Rose Byrne and Bobby Cannavale, and Owen Bartlett to Heather Morris and Taylor Hubbell. Ward Charles was also born to Charles and Cassie Kelley, and Olivia James was born to Kellie James and Keith Christian.

In January, Michael Buble and Luisana Lopilato welcomed baby Elias, Tyra Banks and Erik Asla welcomed York Banks, and Louis Tomlinson and Briana Jungwirth welcomed Freddie Reign. Unusual baby names for the first month of 2016 included Cypress Night (Jack Huston and Shannan Click), Love Lily (Preston and Kristen Brust), and Cruz Achille (Mara Schiavocampo and Tommie Porter).
