Mobile Meth Lab Discovered On Tennessee Elementary School Playground

Murfreesboro, TN — A teacher at an elementary school in Murfreesboro, Tennessee found the remnants of a mobile meth lab on the school’s playground when she took her class out for recess.

Children did not come into contact with the meth lab remnants (a soda bottle and plastic tubing) but the area was still decontaminated as a precaution, reports NBC News. Sargeant Kyle Evans, a police spokesman, stated:

“Meth-making material that was part of a shake-and-bake meth lab was discovered on the school playground.”

No drugs were found inside the bottle. The report added that one ingredient used to prevent grass from growing in themulch on the playground can also be used to make meth. Lisa Trail, Murfreesboro City Schools spokeswoman, stated:

“To the best of my knowledge, this is the first time we’ve had anything like this happen on one of our campus. We hope it’s t he last time, but this is a learning experience.”

The Huffington Post notes that meth is a “Schedule II drug,” according to federal classification. IT works by increasing the release of dopamine into the body, leading to e feeling of euphoria. Small amounts of the drug can lead to side effects like an irregular heartbeat, increased blood pressure, and hyperthermia.

Drugs in this category are controlled substances and have a high potential for abuse. Police have no leads yet on who left the mobile meth lab materials on the school playground. Trail added:

“Our teacher and our assistant principal handled it wonderfully. We did reach out to our parents, to let them know in advance what was found there, and how it’s been taken care of.”

The school where the mobile meth lab was found is home to kindergarten, first grade, and second grade students.
