Usher Adopts Puppy For $12,000 At Charity Auction

Usher ended his month long birthday celebration last night at the Pencils of Promise charity gala in New York where he bid and won a goldendoodle puppy.

According to On The Red Carpet, Usher paid $12,000 for his new puppy. Gossip Girl actres Jessica Szohr was also bidding on the puppy but Szohr stopped bidding at $11,000.

People Magazine reports that Usher tried to win a puppy at last year’s gala but was outbid.

Usher wrote on Twitter:

“All in the name of feline fun! It took me 2 years but I outbid everyone this year to bring Poppy home to Ush.”

The R&B singer said that he was still thinking about a name but was leaning toward Poppy. He’ll have to convince his kids before he makes it official.

Usher wrote:

“Poppy (????) Raymond is what I’m think of namin’ her…however there are two gregarious 3 and 4 year olds (to please).”

Usher’s $12,000 will be used to help build schools in Laos, Ghana, Guatemala, and Nicaragua. The foundation was founded in 2008 and has already built more than 50 schools around the world.

Usher, who has spent the last few weeks celebrating his birthday, has a busy schedule coming up. He’ll be replacing Cee Lo Green on The Voice and will soon play Sugar Ray Leonard in an upcoming boxing movie, Hands Of Stone, about Roberto “Hands of Stone” Duran.
