Nicki Minaj Gets Slammed For Mocking Mentally Ill Woman In A Video She Posted

Nicki Minaj got blasted for posting a video in which she is seemingly making fun of a mentally ill woman. What was the female rapper thinking?

Nicki Minaj posted a video onto her Instagram yesterday which showcases the incident between herself and a woman deemed to be mentally ill.

The video shows a woman standing on a sidewalk in Miami’s South Beach with a drink in one hand and a cigarette in the other. The woman can be seen getting visibly upset when she sees that Minaj was recording her on her phone. The woman can be heard shouting at the rapper to “go away.”

When she begins to walk off, Nicki can be heard shouting, “What did I do?”

Minaj tells the woman that she looks nice and asks, “Can we talk?”

At that point, the woman had wandered down the street, and Nicki had begun talking to another man on the street who was telling her he was a fan.

Fans on Nicki Minaj’s Instagram were enraged after watching the video, claiming that Nicki shouldn’t have bothered the woman, according to the New York Daily News.

“You can clearly tell this woman has [a] mental illness and didn’t want to be filmed, period.”

Another chimed in, adding that Nicki should remove the post.

“If I was u Nicki I would remove this post, I know u didn’t know she was sick. She asked you to leave her alone. I’m sure you would expect to be left alone when you need to be. Poor lady :(.”

Unfortunately for Nicki, fans were not the only ones who were upset at the rapper’s video.

The National Alliance of Mental Illness’s Miami-Dade County branch issued their own official statement regarding the situation.

“Nobody would make fun of a cancer patient, and mental illness is an illness like any other.”

NAMI confirmed that TMZ had reached out to them regarding the Nicki Minaj video and publicly stated that Minaj “objectified” and “dehumanized” the woman in the recording.

“Mental illness is no laughing matter, but unfortunately attitudes like the one Nicki Minaj shows in the Instagram video are a consequence of the stigma and ignorance that mentally ill patients endure.

“One in 5 people in the United States will suffer from a mental illness at least once in their lifetime. That means anyone can be affected by it, even celebrities.

“It is sad to see a big star like Nicki Minaj using her influence among young people in a negative manner such as this.”

Wendy Williams also weighed in on the situation, noting that Nicki probably had an entourage in the car with her and someone should have told her to stop.

“Nicki, you can’t do that! You need to be a lot more sensitive to mental illness. We all have our ways where we forget about being sensitive, but that was direct. It makes you look like an insensitive b****.”

Nicki Minaj has yet to respond to NAMI, Wendy Williams, or her fans regarding the seemingly offensive video. As of right now, the rapper has yet to take down the video from Instagram.

The 35-year-old rapper is under fire for the Instagram photo, will she take it down?

“I love how you think this is appropriate to show all the young followers that look up to you… that dehumanizing is ok and bullying… then you have the nerve to laugh… smh.”

Minaj most definitely was not expecting this kind of reaction from her fans.

“What is wrong with you dumb a– celebrities talking people down and being disrespectful to people. Oh just because you’re famous that gives you a right to humiliate someone, um I think not. Grow up.”
