The Royals: The Real Role Of The Royals, Meghan Markle Not Yet In Position To Join Holiday Celebrations

It’s clear that the British monarchy has gained an opinion by many that see it as somewhat beyond usefulness these days. The monarchy gets a lot of grief for being a symbol of a way of life that has no purpose at present. The BBC posed the question back in 2005 as to whether people of the United Kingdom and under the British monarchy are at present subjects of citizens. However, regardless of the argument and no matter how practical that argument is, the institution of the monarchy remains prominent and holds power and sway. There is really no other royal family that exists which holds the same draw as the British royalty.

One example as to the draw the royals hold includes the fact that approximately 2 billion people worldwide tuned in to watch the royal wedding between Prince William and Duchess Kate Middleton. Additionally, a Netflix series that recently was added, Season 1 of The Crown, is a dramatic series that focuses on the trials the Queen was faced with as a young monarch when she took the throne in 1952. The series has become extremely popular with those intrigued by the history of the British royal family.

Although there is a clear draw to the iconic family, many find it hard to determine what it actually is that the members of the prestigious family do for their “subjects.” In February, Prince William, who is second in line for the throne and also works part time as an air ambulance pilot, came under fire when he was accused of being more of a “part-time,” “reluctant” royal and was criticized for his part-time position as an ambulance pilot. William shrugged off the criticism and ironically stated It’s “part of the job,” as E! News relays. The young royal and father of two, reminded that being a royal is his day job.

The publication reminds as to what it actually is that the royals are responsible for and indicates as to why they are more than just symbolic.

“Just as it’s easy to forget that actors and models are working, so are royals, even if the finished product resembles a fashion show or a scripted reading. Yet while actors are just trying to earn their own living, the royals are under pressure to keep the Crown Estate coffers filled so as to meet their obligation to the Treasury and not become a burden on the entire U.K. (And they still get followed around by paparazzi and skewered in the tabloids, just like average celebs.) “

There has been no question that over the past couple of years, Prince William’s wife, Kate Middleton Duchess of Cambridge, has stepped up her efforts while embracing her role in the royal family. The Duchess was once scrutinized and labeled “Lazy Kate” while she attempted to find her feet as a new member of the royals club. Kate has since proven that she has much to offer and along with her husband as well as Prince Harry, the young royals have begun to give the royal family a new and youthful reputation that connects the symbolic family with the common people. The trio has worked to advocate for mental health charities and even began their own initiative called #HeadsTogether which seeks to eradicate the negative stigma often attached to mental health issues.

Prince Harry has made headlines lately for his new relationship with Suits star Meghan Markle, who is also a humanitarian in her own right. Of course, the new romance has stirred up rumors, one of which surrounds the possible tension between Markle and Middleton. Bitbag shares that the issue which has arisen surrounds Christmas celebrations. Middleton reportedly has made it clear that Markle is not yet able to participate in the royal traditions of the holiday season. The publication notes that this fact was verified by a royal expert to Entertainment Tonight, yet Middleton is not the reason or the member of the family who has opposed Markle’s involvement.

“The 32-year-old royal bachelor knows that it is too soon for the actress to join family events. As such, Kate Middleton and Meghan Markle’s alleged feud will not be the reason for his girlfriend’s absence.”
