Peta Murgatroyd Talks ‘DWTS’ And What She Plans To Do After She Delivers Baby Chmerkovskiy

Peta Murgatroyd had some serious challenges during her last season of Dancing with the Stars, so it’s almost a miracle that she won the Mirrorball trophy. The pregnant pro dancer told Hollywood Life she was extremely sick during the first trimester of her pregnancy, which played out during Season 22 of the ABC celebrity ballroom competition. While Peta went on to win the Mirrorball trophy with celeb partner Nyle DiMarco, it’s almost hard to believe she pulled it off based on what she is now saying about her early weeks of pregnancy.

“I was pregnant for eight weeks out of the 10 weeks [of filming],” Murgatroyd told Hollywood Life.

“It was really challenging. I would walk into the dance studio and have these hot flashes and tell them to open up all the doors and windows because I was sweating.”

Peta revealed that her pregnancy was unplanned, so at first she thought she was just getting “really sick” when her symptoms her off guard a few weeks into filming.

“I was taking toilet breaks literally every hour,” Murgatroyd said.

“The exhaustion of the whole thing was incredible, I would take naps in between dancing rehearsals!… I would take naps, Maks would bring my food, and then I would be nauseous trying not to throw up during Nyle’s dance. My eyes would literally be closing and Nyle would ask if I was ok and if I wanted to lay down.”

Peta found extra challenges in the DWTS costume department because she began gaining water weight immediately. Murgatroyd “danced” around the problem by lowering her hemlines and wearing more conservative outfits. Peta Murgatroyd and her fiance, Maksim Chmerkovskiy, announced the pregnancy shortly after the Dancing with the Stars finale in May.

Since that time, Peta has been documenting her entire pregnancy for fans by posting updates and varying baby bump shots. Most recently, Murgatroyd’s fiancé hit Instagram to joke that Peta got them kicked out of their first Lamaze class.

“We got kicked out because Peta was misbehaving and not listening to anything,” Maks said. “That’s what happens. This baby’s gonna be a disaster.”

The father-to-be wrote that Murgatroyd was “the worst student in class,” but he said he doesn’t blame her because the session was “a million hours long.”

With baby boy Chmerkovskiy due next month, Peta Murgatroyd is looking forward to what she will do after she takes a much-needed maternity break. But while DWTS fans hope to see her back on the show, Peta may have other plans.

“I want to act,” Murgatroyd revealed to Hollywood Life. “I want to get into TV, I would love to do Chicago on Broadway — there are things that I want to accomplish.”

Peta seems to be following in her man’s footsteps when it comes to her acting aspirations. Earlier this year, Chmerkovskiy made a cameo on the Netflix Full House revival, Fuller House, and he told Hollywood Life he has been taking acting lessons with the hopes of becoming a working actor.

But Maks will likely put his acting dreams on hold for the near future. In fact, it sounds like Peta could be back to work before him. In an interview with Bravo’s the Daily Dish, Chmerkovskiy said he plans to stay home with his newborn son so Murgatroyd can pursue her career goals.

“Trust me, I really don’t care how this comes across, but there’s no money on the planet that can replace me missing out the three, four, five months of my baby’s life. Zero chance,” Maks told Bravo.

“I can’t wait for all of this, diapers, and all of this stuff. I can’t wait for Peta to pursue her goals and whatever and I just want to be a stay-at-home dad.”
