‘The Young And The Restless’ Spoilers: Adam Recast ‘In The Works,’ Sharon Case Hints At A Michael Muhney Return

The Young and the Restless spoilers tease that tense moments are ahead on the CBS soap opera. Melody Thomas Scott played Nikki Newman on the daytime drama and hinted that the fans should expect to see Adam Newman again on the Young and the Restless, but she isn’t sure when. The actress who plays Sharon McAvoy, Sharon Case, made similar comments when she implied that Michael Muhney could be the “new” Adam and posted a throwback picture of them together at a fan event. When will Adam return to the show? Will the Young and the Restless rehire Michael Muhney for the role?

The Young and the Restless head writer, Sally Sussman, shocked the fans when she announced that the soap opera had no plans to recast Adam Newman and would keep Christian’s real paternity a secret from Nick Newman (Joshua Morrow). The scoop upset many loyal viewers who had been hoping that Adam would pop into Genoa City during February sweeps. Now, it appears that Sassman could have been trying to throw the fans off, allowing the network to quietly recast the role of Adam Newman.

Sharon Case posted a throwback picture to her Instagram verified page that convinced the Young and the Restless fans that Michael Muhney could be the new (or old) Adam and created a panic that the writers plan to reunite “Shadam,” and thus end his marriage to Chelsea (Melissa Claire Egan). For many Y&R fans, that would be heartbreaking after all the heartache they have faced together. Michael Muhney has been radio silent, as well as the writers and showrunner of the Young and the Restless.

Melody Thomas Scott participated in a Q&A session with the Young and the Restless fans on Monday. She tweeted that she assumed at some point, Adam would return because they never found a body at the cabin. She joked that in the soap opera world when you don’t find a body, the person ends up mysteriously coming back with a “new face” down the road.

The Young and the Restless was blindsided by Justin Hartley’s decision to leave the soap opera. It left the show scrambling for a replacement, and it looks like two months later, they still don’t have an actor to fill his shoes. The role of Adam Newman is an important one for the soap opera. He often goes toe-to-toe with his father, Victor (Eric Braeden) and is usually at odds with his siblings Nick, Victoria (Amelia Heinle), and Abby (Melissa Ordway).

Another reason the Young and the Restless needs to bring him back is to move the Christian paternity storyline. Right now, Nick believes the child is his biological child, and Chelsea knows the truth but decided to stay silent about it. Nick deserves to know the truth, but instead of delivering the bad news, Victor and Chelsea are holding that information from him. Months or years down the road when he learns the truth, his faith in Chelsea will be shattered. Victor will not assume any of the guilt and will likely pin the decision on Chelsea’s shoulders.

Recently, Soap Opera Digest asked Mellisa Claire Egan about the Adam recast, she played coy and stated that she ‘didn’t think Adam would have a new face.” At the time, the Young and the Restless fans assumed that it meant that the role of Adam wouldn’t be recast, but now it looks like Adam isn’t getting a new face –he’s getting his old face back.

Michael Muhney has been radio silent on social media about the role of Adam Newman and has not confirmed nor denied the speculation that he’s returning to the Young and the Restless. Honestly, his refusal to comment is one of the main reasons that many feel that he locked in a deal with CBS. The Young and the Restless fans, do you think Michael Muhney could be the new Adam?

The Young and the Restless airs weekdays on CBS daytime.
