Chris Jericho Vs. Seth Rollins Made Official For ‘WWE Roadblock’

Even though it’s been known for several weeks now, WWE officially announced Chris Jericho vs. Seth Rollins for their Roadblock: End of the Line show on December 18.

On last week’s Raw, we saw some tension between the popular team Jeri-KO (Chris Jericho and Kevin Owens), as Owens told his “best friend” to shut up, just before “Y2J” was able to add Roman Reigns to the “List of Jericho,” which prompted Jericho to leave the building. But, before he was able to do so, he was confronted by Seth Rollins, who Pedigreed him on the hood of his limousine.

On Monday’s Raw, Kevin Owens made an effort to win back his “best friend” by asking Stephanie McMahon to book him against Seth Rollins at the upcoming pay-per-view. She agreed to book Rollins vs. Jericho for the December 18 show in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. So, now the match is official, and it will be the co-main event of Roadblock.

WWE is slowly building towards a Kevin Owens vs. Chris Jericho match, which could happen at WrestleMania 33. So, that begs the question, will Jericho defeat Rollins at Roadblock so he can have momentum in what’ll presumably be a WWE Universal Championship match against Kevin Owens?

Right now, Jericho is the odds-on favorite to win the 2017 Royal Rumble match, which will earn him a shot at the WWE Universal Championship at WrestleMania 33. If he is, in fact, scheduled to win the Rumble, then he doesn’t need to beat Rollins on December 18. Why? Because if Rollins beats Jericho, then “Y2J” will have a challenger for his newly won title coming out of WWE’s biggest show of the year.

There’s also a chance that the returning John Cena will win the Royal Rumble, as he’s the runner-up behind Jericho in the odds for that match. So, if Cena wins, then WWE could do a Jericho vs. Rollins vs. Owens title match in Orlando next spring. Of course, there’s a strong chance that Rollins will end up wrestling Triple H on the show, but there is a rumor going around which suggests that WWE has changed their plans for both Rollins and Triple H and that the match between the two won’t happen next spring.

Even though he’s currently a heel, Chris Jericho is the most popular superstar on Raw. So, WWE is obviously building towards a Jericho face turn at some point. When will it be? Well, they tease it every week, and it still hasn’t happened. It would make sense for it to happen after Jericho wins the 2017 Royal Rumble, if that is, in fact, the plan.

Chris Jericho’s current run has been the longest run he’s had with WWE in several years, as he typically pops in for just a couple of months at a time. It’s also arguably been the best run of his entire career, with is heel run against Shawn Michaels in 2008 being the only one that competes with it.

While Kevin Owens and Roman Reigns will probably have a good, solid main event at WWE Roadblock, Chris Jericho and Seth Rollins could steal the show. Sure, they’ve wrestled before, but they’ve never wrestled on pay-per-view before, and they’ll probably be motivated to put on the best match of the night.

The big question going into the December 18 show is, will Chris Jericho help Kevin Owens retain the Universal Championship like he’s done in the past? The on-screen friction between the two is probably leading many to believe that the answer to that question is no. But, it’s extremely unlikely that Owens will defeat Roman Reigns clean, so Jericho will probably get involved in the main event in some way.
