‘Z Nation’ Renewed For Another Season As Murphy And The Team Search For Lucy

Over the last three seasons, this popular series has centered mainly around Murphy (Keith Allan), who was one of three prisoners given a possible vaccine for a zombie virus that was ravaging the planet. To recap, Murphy was the only one to survive, and although mauled by zombies right after receiving the vaccine, his blood may hold the cure for all mankind. According to TV Line, a team of human survivors banded together on Z Nation to escort Murphy over 3,000 miles across a post-apocalyptic wasteland from New York to the last known functioning Centers for Disease Control research lab in California.

The main problem the Z Nation team faced, besides the zombies, is that almost everyone alive discovered who “The Murphy” is, and that there was a bounty out for his capture. The team’s previous mission on Z Nation of transporting their human-zombie hybrid was eventually accomplished, but a strange turn of events allowed Murphy to break away from the group before a vaccine was developed. He decided to take matters into his own hands and began to develop his own “blended” army on Z Nation. Murphy has dreams of getting civilization up and running again with the help of his own human-zombie hybrids. Murphy also wants to retrieve his hybrid daughter, Lucy (played by both Madelyn Grace and Bea Corley), before a ruthless bounty hunter first introduced on this season of Z Nation and known as “The Man” (Joseph Gatt) finds her.

Lt. Roberta Warren (Kellita Smith), Steven “Doc” Beck (Russell Hodgkinson), Addison “Addy” Carver (Anastasia Baranova), and the youngest member of the group, Tommy or 10k (Nat Zang), are all that remain of the original Z Nation group. PFC Simon Cruller (DJ Qualls), better known as “Citizen Z,” found himself stuck on a listening post in the Arctic, and used his high-tech equipment to assist the Z Nation team. This season he left the station and ran into Kaya (Ramona Young), a spunky young Inuit woman living with her uncle and grandmother. They eventually return with Citizen Z back to the station where he is able to re-establish contact with the team.

This season on Z Nation, 10k was bitten by Murphy and despite his best attempts to escape, finds himself once again back under Murphy’s control. In the meantime, the Z Nation team was forced to split up as Warren and Vietnamese virologist Sun Mei (Sydney Viengluang) devise a plan to get Murphy’s blood, while Addy and Doc try to get to Lucy before The Man. Murphy wants no part of Warren’s plan and the situation between the two seems dire. Then Citizen Z’s airplane, piloted by Kaya’s uncle, crash lands nearby and he tells them both he received a message from Doc that The Man now has Lucy. This news immediately unites them and with only two Z Nation episodes left of season 3, they turn their attention to getting Lucy back before it’s too late.

As for Citizen Z, Kaya informs him that he’s going to be a father, and he’s excited and ready to return home. Since the plane was undoubtedly damaged in the crash, it remains to be seen how he will accomplish any type of journey by land since the flesh-eating undead have overrun the land. Perhaps they will find another plane somewhere along the way.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, since it’s premiere Z Nation has regularly ranked among cable’s top 10 most-watched scripted series. There are 13 episodes of Z Nation scheduled for Season 4, which will air sometime in 2017.
