Scheana Shay Divorce: Her ‘Vanderpump Rules’ Costars Reveal What Really Caused Her Split From Michael Shay
It’s only been a week since Scheana Shay and Michael Shay announced their divorce, yet their Vanderpump Rules co-stars are already dishing on why the marriage didn’t work. What did Lisa Vanderpump and company have to say about the split?
Radar Online reports that Scheana and Michael parted ways following a huge argument in their house. Scheana noted “irreconcilable difference” in the official divorce papers, but Vanderpump revealed that Michael’s addiction played a big part in the breakup.
“Well, you’re going to see some of [what went wrong] on the end the season,” Vanderpump explained during the premiere of the Real Housewives of Beverly Hills.
“I’m very protective of Scheana, and with what went down last year — you know, what she talked about [with Mike’s] addiction — I felt really quite incensed because I have a lot of sympathy for people with addiction.”
The reality star didn’t approve of the marriage since day one, especially given how Scheana knew about Michael’s addiction and the problems it could create down the road. In the end, Vanderpump was saddened by the divorce news, which only confirmed her earlier suspicions.
“I was a little upset with the fact they entered into this marriage with [Scheana] being aware of what she was taking on,” she stated.
“Scheana’s a great girl, she really is, and to see this fairytale come to an end, it was quite disheartening, really.”
The RHOBH star isn’t the only one speaking out about the divorce. During a podcast with Maria Menounos on SiriusXM, Radar Online reports that Kristen Doute revealed that cameras were rolling when Scheana and Michael’s marriage started falling apart.
“It wasn’t going to, but she agreed to. Because it kind of just all started happening in the last few months… they’ve taped some stuff,” Doute shared.
“Obviously there are other things that will come out on this season that were reasons as to why. She definitely had some other reasons and things that have happened between the two of them.”
According to OK Magazine, Doute stopped short of revealing any details about Scheana Shay’s split. She did, however, admit that the divorce was amicable and hinted that his addiction was at the center of the couple’s problems.
Given his issues with drugs and alcohol, some of Michael’s close friends are worried about what he might do now that he’s a single man. In fact, one friend admitted that Michael might turn back to drugs and alcohol to cope with the divorce.
“He chose partying to make himself feel better,” the insider stated. “He didn’t like the cameras.”
With all the negativity surrounding the divorce, Vanderpump told ET Online that the cast of Vanderpump Rules is starting to feel the effects of the added attention.
“What is so extraordinary, is the fact that the cohesion between this group and the authenticity is why we created this show … because they’ve known each other long. So, you see the splinter effects, the ripple effects, the ramifications of what’s going on.”
While fans wait to watch the drama unfold, Vanderpump is getting ready for the premiere of the new season of the Real Housewives of Beverly Hills. The reality star had a rough year on the show last season but is looking forward to introducing her new co-star and longtime friend, Dorit Kemsley.
“But no, I have my new friend Dorit, who I think you’re going to love,” she admitted.
“She gets herself in a little bit of trouble. She’s the newbie, but it did get a little bit heated again.”
