Promoter Arum Calls Boxing Fans More ‘Ethnic’ Than MMA Spectators

New York, NY (AHN) – Major boxing promoter Bob Arum went on a tirade regarding mixed martial arts during an interview at Yankee Stadium, barring no holds, so to speak.
He also added that MMA doesn’t draw an ‘ethnic’ crowd like boxing does.
“Our audience in boxing is ethnic. Hispanic, Filipino, Puerto Rican, Mexican and the hardcore boxing fan can’t watch UFC,” Arum told Ariel Helwani of AOL Fanhouse.
He continued on his tirade, lumping UFC fans into one category.
“UFC fans are a bunch of skinhead white guys who are watching a bunch of people in the ring who look like skinhead white guys,” he said.
He also took a shot at MMA, calling it horrible and saying the sport’s competitors all have glass jaws and don’t train as hard or as vigorously as boxers.
“[MMA is] guys rolling around like homosexuals on the ground. It is not a sport that shows great, great talent. The guys can’t throw a punch to save their ass.”
He even took a shot at Pay-Per-View, claiming that there’s no way MMA is as big as they are making it out to be, that their figures are “well south of $1 million”.
One of the most controversial figures in boxing, Arum was once fined $125,000 for reportedly attempting to bribe the Nevada State Athletic Commission.
