San Jose, CA (AHN) – Graphic design software firm Adobe Systems Inc. announced Tuesday the acquisition of online advertising measurement company Omniture Inc. to the tune of $1.8 billion.

The amount represents a $21.50 per share offer to Omniture, 24 percent higher than the Oren, Utah-based firm’s closing price Tuesday. Announcement of the sale caused Adobe shares to slide 4.2 percent to $34.12 a share.

It was Adobe’s biggest acquisition since buying design software company Macromedia Inc. for a whopping $3.4 billion in April 2005. The purchase was also made amid a slumping sales and lower third-quarter profit and sales.

Adobe Chief Executive Officer Shantanu Narayen said Omniture’s software will help Adobe’s customers in their Internet advertising campaigns.
