Selena Gomez: 2016 Instagram Queen Swaps Orange Dress For Pajamas On Shopping Spree

Over the course of 2016, Selena Gomez has become the Instagram queen and regaled us all with a succession of stunning orange dresses. At the recent AMA’s Gomez wore a stunning orange dress by Prada which had Style Nine declaring her the “Belle of the ball.” Gomez later brought a tear to many eyes with her heartfelt speech about being “broken” by a combination of pressure and autoimmune disease Lupus. Gomez had been fighting a long battle against the disease, and as the Daily Mail revealed, Selena had to cancel her tour and check into rehab to aid her recovery.

Mind you, the AMA’s was not the only time this year that Selena has stunned in an orange dress. Back in March, the Daily Mail reported that Gomez had been a knockout in an orange dress when she visited Paris. On that occasion, Selena was described as a “tangerine dream.” The same outlet, the Daily Mail, assures us that orange is not necessarily the new black where Gomez is concerned. Instead, they report that Selena popped out for a spot of late night shopping in Santa Monica, dressed in her pajamas.

Pictures of Gomez have emerged that show her walking through a Santa Monica mall dressed in, what looked like, a pair of purple silk pajamas. To be fair to Selena, she topped the outfit off with a long black coat and a pair of stylish high-heeled shoes. This was the first time that Gomez has been spotted by celebrity watchers since her AMA appearance.

It is perhaps evidence of Gomez’s inexorably increasing popularity that she has been crowned the 2016 Instagram queen. Gomez took a 14-week break from social media while she was in rehab. Despite her lengthy break from the platform CNET reports that Gomez posted eight of the top 10 posts on Instagram this year. Selena’s most popular post was a Coca-Cola advert that has amassed almost 6 million “likes.”

Selena now has over 103 million followers on Instagram, a figure that pushes Selena’s BFF, Taylor Swift into second place, nearly 10 million followers behind. Ariana Grande, Beyonce, and Kim Kardashian join Selena and Tay to make up a clean sweep of the top five places for young female celebrities.

MTV recently reported that Gomez revealed that her self-imposed exile from social media was a major factor in her rehabilitation. As a result of her hiatus, she was able to make some pretty major changes to her lifestyle and that includes taking time out from her cellphone.

“I recently took 90 days off. During that time I did not have my cellphone. It was the most refreshing, calming, rejuvenating feeling. Now I rarely pick up my phone, and only limited people have access to me.”

So What About These Claims That Selena Is Dating One Direction’s Niall Horan?

Gomez must get pretty tired of stories linking her to One Direction star Niall Horan. Almost exactly a year ago People magazine was reporting that Selena had set the record straight on rumors linking her with Irish heartthrob Horan. On that occasion, Gomez said that she and Niall were just good friends though she did add “I love him, I always have. He’s amazing.”

It doesn’t take much to start the rumor mill running when either Selena or one of the One Direction boys are concerned. Let’s be honest, when you are as popular as Selena Gomez or Niall Horan, the gossip press love a celebrity love affair story.

As you can see in the video above Niall told Ryan Seacrest in an interview that he was “definitely single” despite rumors linking him to Gomez and to Celine Vandyke. Of course, Gomez still has to contend with rumors that she is reconciling with former flame Justin Bieber. This despite a number of social media spats between the pair in which Gomez claimed that Justin Bieber cheated on her.

It seems that when you are Selena Gomez, Instagram’s most popular celebrity, the rumors keep on rolling.
