Selena Gomez Opens Up On Rehab Stint: Calls Her 90-Day Break ‘Refreshing’ And ‘Calming’

Selena Gomez is back and better than ever. Following her two-month stint in rehab, the singer is finally opening up about her time away from the spotlight. What did Gomez have to say about her 90-day break?

People reports that Gomez cut herself off from the outside world and didn’t even have access to her phone while in rehab. Despite the fact that Gomez is the most followed person on Instagram, she called the break “refreshing” and “calm.”

“It was the most refreshing, calming, rejuvenating feeling. Now I rarely pick up my phone, and only limited people have access to me,” she revealed, adding that she barely even checks e-mail now.

Gomez now spends her time “learning new things” and keeps energized by “staying healthy (mentally, physically, emotionally).” This includes drinking water and stretching in the mornings, while taking short breaks throughout the day. She also enjoys cooking and taking naps.

Gomez made her first public appearance in months at the 2016 American Music Awards. The pop star surprised fans with an emotional and candid speech about her recent struggles.

“I think it’s safe to say that most of you know a lot of my life, whether I like it or not. I had to stop, ’cause I had everything and I was absolutely broken inside,” she explained. “I kept it all together enough to where I would never let you down, but I kept it too much together to where I let myself down.”

Gomez left fans with an encouraging word, saying: “If you are broken, you do not have to stay broken … whether you respect me or not, one thing you should know about is I care about people.”

ABC News reported that Gomez has been through a tough few years. This past summer, Gomez canceled her Revival World Tour because she became overwhelmed by “anxiety, panic attacks, and depression” she claims stemmed from Lupus. She has also gone through multiple breakups with her on-and-off again boyfriend, Justin Bieber, who was also nominated for a few AMAs.

In the end, Gomez thanked fans for being “so damn loyal” and admitted, “I don’t know what I did to deserve you.”

After her speech at the AMAs, Gomez’s followers on Instagram climbed to a little over 1 million. According to People, Gomez is the most followed celebrity on social media, falling just ahead of Taylor Swift and Ariana Grande on the top ten list. Beyonce is behind Grande with 88.9 million followers, while Kim Kardashian, Cristiano Ronaldo, Kylie Jenner, Dwayne Johnson, Nicki Minaj, and Kendall Jenner round out the rest.

Despite being the Queen of Instagram, E! News reports that Gomez doesn’t pay attention to social media. Instead, the singer assured her fans that she no longer needs their validation online.

“I don’t want to see your bodies on Instagram. I want to see what’s in here,” Gomez shared. “I’m not trying to get validation, nor do I need it anymore. All I can say is I’m so grateful that I have the opportunity to be able to share what I love every day with people that I love.”

Gomez took home an award for Favorite Pop/Rock Female Artist, her first AMA award. Gomez has not commented on what she plans on doing next, though it sounds like she will be taking things easy for the foreseeable future.

The ‘Hands To Myself’ singer was spotted looking radiant while shopping this past weekend in Santa Monica, CA, while wearing a not-so-common outfit. Gomez was wearing pajamas, black pumps, and a low ponytail, she topped off her look with an ankle-length overcoat.

Of course, the comments from her fans began to roll in, “Only she can wear pajamas out in public and still slayyy,” sad one fan, while another claimed they now have “pajama chic goals.”
