Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show: What It’s Really Like For Kendall Jenner And The Angels

Victoria’s Secret angels love what they do, right? For the models who get their wings, “it’s a dream come true,” and even though the competition is huge, the rewards are even bigger than huge.

Watching the “ultra-gorgeous, super-fit” angels walk the Victoria’s Secret runway is like being whisked away to a fantasy world, but behind the scenes it’s crazy hard work.

People magazine put together candid comments from some of this year’s top Victoria’s Secret Angels, so that the rest of the world can get a glimpse of “the real inside story.”

According to the magazine, most people wouldn’t be “willing to endure even one” of the “grueling workouts” that Angels go through all the time.

It’s not easy being an Angel. They’re willing to sacrifice just about anything to earn their wings and keep them. Danish model Josephine Skriver has three years in walking for Victoria’s Secret, but she just reached the pinnacle this year when she earned her Angel wings in February.

Skriver told People it’s “amazing” but it’s also incredibly hard physical work every single day. The new Angel said she wins every fight with her comfy couch.

“I want to enhance every curve possible so I look banging hot when I go out there. So, I hit the gym a little harder. The couch will never win a fight over me.”

Bella Hadid, whose sister Gigi Hadid is also an Angel, wanted the rest of the world to realize that everyone feels insecure about their body, even gorgeous Victoria’s Secret Angels.

“I think every single person in the world has insecurities. It’s crazy because I think that when other people look at all of the VS models or all of the girls [who] are walking, they’re like, ‘They’re not human. They don’t have any insecurities.’ But I think every single girl [who’s] going to be walking probably has an insecurity.”

Bella and Gigi are BFFs with fellow Angel Kendall Jenner. Kendall has been in front of the camera most of her 21 years, but when it came to her first Victoria’s Secret show, Kylie Jenner’s big sis was so “emotional” that she cried during the fitting. Kendall was afraid she might cry on the runway!

“I did [cry] a little bit, [during] my first fitting. I had tears. You know when you feel it in your throat — that you’re about to cry. I held myself back. I stopped myself. Honestly, the show is such a dream come true. So walking in it is a really big deal for me. I’m extremely excited. I just hope I don’t cry [on the runway].”

Right now, Kendall is just back from the Paris Victoria’s Secret Show where she proved she can “turn heads with ease” on and off the runway. This was Jenner’s second show (and her first as an Angel), but it would have been totally understandable if she’d had trouble staying calm.

Kendall’s sister Kim Kardashian has been going through a tough time after her husband Kanye West ended up in hospital last week. But Kendall “looked like a pro as she glided along the runway,” and never let any of her family worries show at all.

The Keeping Up with the Kardashians star had some great advice for other Angels that she obviously followed herself,

“Just smile, because I think it’s always cuter when you smile. Your first time, you’re a little more nervous than any other time and I think if you smile it kind of hides that a little bit. Just have fun!”

The “original” Victoria’s Secret Show Angel had some memories from her time wearing wings. Veronica Webb is 51 years old now, and “just as youthful-looking” as she was in show in 1995, according to the La Cross Tribune.

“I was in the first Victoria’s Secret show and it was one of the most challenging bookings that I ever did because, obviously, if you’re in a room and everyone else is dressed and you’re in your underwear it’s a little bit embarrassing.”

It would be more than embarrassing for anyone to be caught in a crowd wearing only underwear. But every year, hundreds of young models hope for the chance to do just that, so long as they get to wear Angel wings too.

Angels look heavenly, but they have to be down to earth with their work ethic and discipline. As Alessandra Ambrosio said, “It’s hard because we just had Halloween so you want to eat all this candy, but forget the candy!”
