Guitar Hero Going Plug and Play? Take That Gaming Consoles!

bobby-kotick-20090915

It was only a matter of time before Activision decided that Guitar Hero could make it on it’s own. Now Activision CEO Bobby Kotick has begun to speak of a console free version of upcoming Guitar Hero releases.

Kotick explained that offering a game that doesn’t require a gaming console would allow “some leverage with first parties when it comes to downloadable content and the business model” He further explored the possibility of “off grid” games by stating that we should “expect many of [Activision's] products to be playable independent of a console.”

The move would mean that Activision could focus on their own requirements and not focus on porting their games from one system to another, each which have their own requirements.

While no timeframe have been given in terms of when these “plug and play” games may be made available, we expect them to be more advanced than the atari controller games we see at the local Walmart. [via Joystiq]
